Chapter 16 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What will you do?

Fight your way through the guards' barracks

This was a situation that called for the touch of a thief or trickster. Either you were running low of one or the other, or you were simply impatient-- the answer that called to you was to abandon stealth and barge through the front door. Thankfully, you'd drastically lowered the number of guards who were around the station, so fighting them all was well within the realm of possibility.

Guards began to assemble in the main hall, brandishing swords and raising shields in anticipation of your attack. "You've got a lot of balls, outsider! I'd tell you to go back where you came from, but the only place you'll be seein' from now on is the inside of a prison cell! That is, if we let you keep the head on your shoulders!"

"Reckon we'll keep the ladies in good condition though, eh? No use carvin' up somethin' with some worth to it," another of them snickered, beating his sword against his shield as if daring you to attack.

They'd underestimated the power of your party, of course.

{if Helmid = True}The guards might be sufficient for the malnourished pilgrims that tried to make their way through this place, but in the face of a trained paladin, they were vastly outclassed. Helmid's sword shattered shields and sent swords flying as she knocked aside foe after foe.{endif}{if Rosary = True}

Rosary focused her Geodshield upon you, protecting you while you matched three foes simultaneously. There was little need even to guard. The barrier protected you while you landed blows upon their weak-points, knocking the outmatched soldiers to their knees.{endif}{if Bangaal = True}

A group of the soldiers simply vanished, pulled into portals by mysterious red hands that appeared out of nowhere-- it was Bangaal's magic. You hoped that she was putting them down somewhere very far away...{endif}{if Liens = True}

You were worried about how Liens would handle a situation like this, but she protected herself well enough, holding tight to an unusual, forearm-length steel rod that generated a cage of electricity around herself. It wasn't great for dispatching guards, but it made it very hard for any of them to reach her. "Go. Get 'em. You guys got this. I'll be fine. Don't worry. You do it. Finish them. Let's hurry," she cheered in a dry, monotone voice.{endif}

After a bit of effort, you'd finally taken out all of the guards remaining in the outpost without incurring any significant injuries. Thankfully, none of them had managed to raise a further alarm, but you had lost time, and they'd all seen your faces. This was going to be difficult to smooth over later in your report to the church...
