Feeling the Wind

The first thing I noticed when I woke up was that I was being buffeted by wind, the second thing I noticed was that I was falling. Fast. I quickly opened up my eyes and saw a lush valley, and I saw in a way I never could before. It was almost as if someone had increased the saturation in my eyes, the way everything popped out at me. It's beautiful. Holy shit, have other people seen the world like this before? Wait, that's getting close. Fast. SHIT!

"Hey! What are you doing?! Pull out your wings before you crash!!"

I swept my new head over to my side to see Ariel with his wings in a dive to keep up with me, though in the moment it's always hard to remember it's a guy. Open my wings? Yeah, that makes sense. Okay, how do I do that? Wings OPEN! Nope. Before I could open my mouth to ask Ariel had already landed on my back and began to pull my wings off of my body.

"This is my first time as a Guardian Angel, you can't die ALREADY even if you are a monster!"

As he pulled I could feel muscles that I had never felt before get strained. As an experiment, I tried flexing them and suddenly my wings spread out to my side and I could feel my muscles strain to not have them blow back and break as I slowed down, almost instantly. I could feel Ariel hit my back because of the sudden shift of speed.

"Ow."

Even with that air brake, the ground was still approaching fast as I was driven by my own momentum into the forest. I crashed into the trees shattering them and leaving a deep gouge in the ground. I could feel the lancing pain as the more fragile bones in my wings broke. I eventually came to a stop after landing like a meteorite leaving a trail of destruction in my wake. Can I just, lay here for a while? And not move. Ever. Like at all? Fuck this hurts, I don't even want to open my eyes man.

"Hey! You need to learn how to fly ASAP. I know you just got this body but jeez, you already almost died! Whoever heard of a dragon falling to ****? You would have been a failure as a dragon and that would make me a failure as a Guardian Angel! Come on you big idiot, open up your eyes already. I'll heal your wings."

I slowly opened my eyes, looking around. I could see Ariel on my back, and feel my bones snapping back into place. As I looked around at the vibrant forest my vision suddenly switch to only blues, oranges, and reds. Wait a second? Do dragons have fucking THERMAL VISION!? I turned towards my back and sure enough I could see the outline of Ariel and his wings, as well as my much hotter body temperature. Damn, guess I'm not cold-blooded but a furnace instead. I mean I can probably breathe fire right? So that makes sense. After a couple of seconds of concentrating, I manage to get my vision back to normal.

I sweep my head to a puddle near where I crashed, taking a good look at my scaly form. I had the stereotypical draconic features, with black scales and large slitted yellow eyes. Looking back at my body I see the typical European dragon, with finally fixed wings. Damn, I mean I know this is me, but it's still hard to come to grips with.

New Quest: Figure out how to Dragon

My first quest! The bonus objectives were stuff I was going to do anyway so that's good. Pheromones? Wait, yeah, I selected those, didn't I? Damn, it's kinda getting hard to remember everything that I picked.

"Hey Ariel, what do you actually do, you know, as my guardian angel?"

"AH!" Ariel shrieked at my deep, baritone voice. It seemed to rumble through the forest and surround us.

Damn, that's badass.

"F-forget that you heard that! I wasn't scared, just slipped on your scales! Yeah! That's it!"

He seems awfully proud of himself for coming up with that. I began to chuckle, as it began to vibrate the air around me and the dust on the ground started to move because of it. Ariel jumped off my back and ran in front of me, blushing red. He stamped his foot on the ground.

"Don't laugh at me! I'm supposed to be your guardian angel! I gave you all this power! It's not fair!"

"Right, sorry. Can you explain the whole guardian angel thing? Am I going to just have you following me around all the time?"

"Hmph" Ariel pouted, crossing his arms. "Fine, I'll tell you. First, no way am I going to be following you around all the time. I have other stuff to do you know! But I'll be keeping an eye on you, and if you really need it I can help you out. Heal you, give you some guidance, protect you. You know, basic stuff. But of course, since it's me it's going to be super powerful, just you wait. Just please don't hurt people too much. Pleaaaaase. Pretty please!"

"Cool, cool. What happened to the care and comfort part about being my guardian angel, huh? What if I need some comfort?"

"S-shut up! T-that was never part of the deal, nope, no-way, not at all, can't prove it. Can't make me. I-i mean even if it WAS, which it's so not! I'm not gay not even the slightest bit! So that wouldn't work, plus look at you and look at me, huge size difference." At this point Ariel began to trail off into unintelligible mumblings, blushing even more and looking away.

"Yeah right. How about you guide me along how to use those abilities you gave me then?"
