Family game night

"Cumanji" John read aloud as he held the heavy wooden box in his hands. He and his family had just moved to a new city, his parents weren't well off so had found a cheap apartment and bought it with the idea of renovating it and making it livable. That was 2 months ago and John was already fed up of living in a building site. At 19 years old he could move out by himself but his job didn't pay him enough to afford somewhere in the city. Having a free day at home was a rarity for John, his parents were in the living room painting, his older sister was decorating her room and John was at a loose end. He'd decided to explore the old shed in the garden and had found it full of boxes, with nothing better to do he started going through them, most of them packed with junk, old newspapers, broken furniture, some clothes, nothing really interesting. Until he found the dusty wooden box in the corner.

He opened the box up and found an ornately decorated board, a deck of cards and some dice. It looked like an old board game but John had never heard of Cumanji before.

He carried the box into the house, cleaning the dust and cobwebs from it first, and placed it on the kitchen table. Curiosity getting the better of him he pulled out his phone and typed the name into Google, 0 results. Whatever he'd found was either extremely rare or was pretty obscure.

"What ya got there sport?" a voice came from the door. John looked up and saw his father standing in the doorway, his salt and pepper hair flecked with splotches of red paint. Alan Smith was in his early 50s but looked younger he was tall and classicly handsome, two things John was secretly annoyed he hadn't inherited. Alan worked some boring finance job that John had never fully paid attention to, he had a bit of a belly from years of desk work and quick, easy lunches but he wasn't in bad shape. He crossed over to the sink and poured himself a glass of water, gulping it down. "Your mom and I are almost done with the living room, wanna take a look" John followed his father into the living room, the furniture was pulled into the centre and covered with an old sheet to protect it from the paint. He looked over and saw his mother, half way up a ladder, painting the top of the wall. Her round ass eye level as John entered the room.

"Looking good mom" John said, not entirely sure himself if he meant her or the room. Claire looked over her shoulder as her husband and son entered the room and smiled at them. She was younger than John's dad, in her mid 40s, John's friends often teased him about how hot they found her and he secretly had to agree with them. Claire was the definition of a MILF, she had an hourglass figure that she kept toned with regular yoga and PT sessions in the gym. Her plump rear jiggled in the tight leggins as she climbed down the ladder. Despite being dressed in old workout gear that she used for decorating or lounging round the house she still looked gorgeous. "John found something in the shed" Alan smiled. "Uhh, yeah" Josh said, his attention snapped back to the present "it looks like an old board game"

"Sounds fun" Claire beamed "it's been a while since we had a family game night. Why don't you give your sister a shout while we clean up and we can all play"

John nodded and made his way upstairs, stopping outside his sister's bedroom door. He could hear the slow, melodic music seeping out from under the door. He knocked "Megan" he shouted through the closed door "Mom is talking about a family game night". The door jerked open as the music abruptly stopped. John was face to face with his older sister. She took after his mother in the figure department, her large, perky breasts and curvaceous figure obvious even in her baggy clothes. She'd also inherited her father's height, towering over John even without her usual platform boots on. Megan was an alternative girl, covered in piercings and tattoos from her rebellious years in her early 20s.

"Sounds good to me" she laughed "been too long since I kicked your ass at a game"

John and Megan made their way downstairs and joined their parents at the kitchen table. Claire had already set up the game and Alan had made a pitcher of iced tea for them all. In each corner was a start space, each woth one of 4 playing pieces, Josh studied them and realised they strangely looked similar to him and his family. The board had a path leading from each corner to a large pink gem in the middle. Carved into the gem was the name of the game.

"Right" Claire said "it seems pretty straight forward" she passed the rules over to John. He picked up the small double sided leaflet and read the rules aloud "Cumanji, a game for those who seek to find a way to leave their world behind. Roll the dice to move your token, double gets another go. First person to the end wins" he flipped the page over "players beware: do not start the game unless you intend to finish. The exciting consequences of the game will only vanish when a player reaches the climax"
