D'Shawna lived on the other side of town. Their house was a 2 family townhouse in an area full of multi family houses. "NO no stop with this sir business you can call me gramps I got a good feeling about you and besides everyone calls me gramps."

Just then a man who looked like a younger version of gramps came down the stairs and hugged D'Shawna. He came over and gave Cole an apprasing look. Cole looked back and saw a pretty man in his mid 30's his hair up in a large afro wearing a pretty white blouse and jeans with a pair of red heeled sandales.

"Hello Mr.Wiggins I'm Cole." Cole said nervously Mr.Wiggins gaze never wavered as he stared Cole up and down.

"Relax Travis the poor boy isn't trying to steal your precious baby. Can’t you see how nervous the boy is? And besides D'Shawna has never brought a boy home lets try to not run off the first boy she thought worthy to bring home." Gramps chuckled

"Hello Cole." Mr Wiggins said coolly while sitting on the chouch and patting the seat next to him "Tell me about yourself."

"Well I am an honor student who is trying to get into a good school. I do gymastics and debate at school. " Cole began to describe himself.

"See smart and pretty now stop giving the boy the third degree you know that in your mind no one is good enough for you special little girl. Now behave son while I finish dinner." Gramps said while going back to the kitchen.

"Can I help with anything?" Cole asked in an effort to escape D'Shawna's dads intense gaze.

"Sure dear have you ever snapped peas?" Gramps chuckled

"I'm not much of a cook but I would love to learn." Cole said following the older man into the kitchen.

As they finished cooking the sides Gramps chuckled "Don't worry about my son he put everything into that girl so of course he would be standoffish to any boy who she thinks is trying to take his place in her heart."

"I'm not.."

"Maybe not on purpose but you are the first boy she has ever brought home and after the first date no less," Gramps interrupted.

Cole couldn't belive it D'Shawna and Nicki dated for almost two years and she never brought him over for dinner. "No it's not like that you see we were paired up as part of a home ec school project and she nd my sister are.."

Gramps cut him off again "Those are just excuses if he wanted she could go to your house any other night to eat your cooking and hang with your sister. But she wanted you here tonight for family dinner. That says something and I am starting to see what that is." Cole was shocked when Gramps gave him such a warm hug.
