Failures and Friendships

He wasn't responding, just kept staring at Lamias face for a few seconds until she couldn't take it anymore.

"I mean, if you don't want to talk about it, it's fine, we can talk about literally anything else, like how cool is this train, right? Oh, look, there is a cow girl outside. Or maybe it's a regular cow? Or we can just be quiet and enjoy the ride, I certainly don't m..."

"It's complicated." Andreas interrupted the avalanche of words that she was directing at him. "Attempts and failures. Yearning. Lust. Belonging. Relying on each other. Lisa is my oldest friend, and she always was there for me."

Sally nodded, not saying anything this time, not wanting to antagonize Andreas.

"We were together, you know, together together so many times. We tried. We ever attempted to **** it once just by living together and going to couples counciler. It never worked out." He closed his eyes, reminiscing of the past. "Every time it was the little things. Little annoyances, small dramas. They built up. Every time we agreed to be friends, and every time it lasted until we were tearing apart our clothes from each other."

"I understand..." Sally started. "She is your best friend."

"Yeah." He sighed. "My only friend in this world."

In response the Lamia put her hands on the table and stood up.

"Not only! You have me, I am your friend. We just met each other, but I feel like we're going to be great friends!"

"Sit down, no need to make the scene." He said calmly.

"But there is noone around."

Andreas just gave her a one, cool look which made her comply with his request.

"But I'll give it to you, we'll probably be good friends. Or hate each others guts, haha." Andreas laughed.

"Riiight. I mean, if you keep walking in on me naked, in the bathroom..."

"And if you keep sleeping with me..."

They looked each other in the eyes, and laughed.

Together.

Like friends.

Sally put her elbow on the small table and then dropped her head on it.

"You know, you aren't so bad compared to all those other humans. You are turning out to be a way better person than I thought."

He sent her a warm smile.

"You aren't that bad either for someone that could be considered a monster by some people."

"Eh, screw all of them." She shrugged, even though she obviously cared how is she perceived by everyone else. "If they don't even want to take an effort to get to know me, then what I can do about it?"

"Nothing." He responded.

"Exactly."

The train was slowing down.

"My stomach feels funny. What's going on?"

She asked.

"We're just stopping on one of the stations on the way to take more people. There might be some coming to take a sit near us."

"Really?" She asked with excited voice and a spark in her eyes.

Andreas nodded.

The train stopped two minutes later. People were going out and new ones were coming in. And, like Andreas said, some even got to their car to sit nearby. An older couple as well as a few individuals from younger generations.

None of them openly looked the second time at the Lamia and her companion. None of them said hello, or asked about anything at all.

"Are they scared of me?" Sally said with hushed voice, leaning to Andreas.

"Maybe." He responded in similar manner. "And I'm pretty sure they can hear us."

She straightened her back and opened her eyes wide.

Andreas just let out a genuine laugh, and she joined him.

People around were confused, but s little more accepting, considering the fact that a monster girl looked a little more like human in that moment.
