Chapter 159 by voidcaller17

What Now?

Fae

I enter the Master Room and see Asami sitting on the bed.

"Eric!" She says happily, setting her book down and hugging me. I hug her back and pet her while she purrs. "Are you guys finally done? It's almost six."

"Really? And yes, we're done. Myla got a new sword. Also I have good news. By the time we finish these Ruins I should have enough for our Guild Hall." Asami looks up at me and smiles.

"Good. Because I have something to show you. Well two things." She says breaking the hug and sitting back down. She pats next to her and I sit down. She hands me a folder and holds onto a book.

"So earlier, while you were showering, I asked Hino for Sugano's phone number. She used to be the Blue Lotus guilds secretary, and she taught me a lot before." Asami starts before opening the folder in my hands. "I wanted to ask her about some questions about the Ruins I had but then I saw this." I see inside the folder are applications from a few different people. I see their pictures and it reminds me of a resume. Except that they're all Lyna, or beast men. "So apparently word got out that we were requested to explore some Ruins. So now some of the Lyna who haven't entered a guild yet are asking to join ours. Sugano said this is common when guilds get access to some Ruins. They all want a chance to explore them and maybe get an artifact. But only the Guild Master can decide whether or not to accept them."

"How would I do that? Also what exactly are the artifacts?" I ask her and she chuckles.

"Well no one knows for sure why the Ruins contain artifacts. The most popular theory is that when a Ruins is created it pulls undiscovered magical artifacts to it. Or that the artifacts themselves go to the Ruins. Either way all artifacts are objects that were once known to exist. Like the book on Ruins I read had an example. It said that during the Lyna wars one of the most know warriors wielded a spear. Then hundreds of years later that same spear was found in some Ruins. But, as I said, no one knows for sure why they appear in them. Now, for the applications you need to use your Guild Registry device. You'll see a number on the bottom of each application. Just type that into the device and their application will appear on your screen. It'll also tell you the reason why they asked to join. Then you can choose to accept, decline or request to meet in person. Then they'll get a letter from the governments Familiars, usually in an hour but it can take a day or two. It'll let them know your choice. However, I don't recommend accepting any of them."

"Why is that?" I ask. I trust her judgement but I am curious why she'd turn them down before meeting them.

"Our guild is still new. However, word about how we're aiding the Silver Garden and Blue Locus guilds has already gotten out. They're both respected and pretty powerful guilds. Sugano described it as, they're guilds are in the top 25% of all guilds. Due to this, and the Ruins we now have, a lot of other guilds, including some stronger than the Silver Garden and Blue Locus, are watching us closely. They're unsure of what our plans and motives are but know that we could grow more powerful than them. So if we accepted someone and they caused any problems, it would be reflected on our guild. So to be safe we should hold off accepting any until we finish the Ruins. That way we can also be sure they won't leave as soon as we finish them."

"Thank you Asami." I say kissing her and she smile. She rests her head against me as I decline the four applicants. Three had asked to join to get more experience but one just said they wanted to explore the Ruins. After I finish I turn back to Asami. "You said you had two things to show me right? What was the other?" I ask her and she holds out the book she was holding. On its cover is a picture of a fairy.

"This is a book about Fae. I wanted to talk to you about it because it's heavily recommended that all Lyna learn about them. So here are the basics about them. They're all magic, but unlike beast men they have much more mana. Beast men are more physically strong while most are weaker in mana. Fae are the opposite. They're very magical and can even die if they run out of mana and don't recover quick enough. However, unlike beast men, Fae come in all different shapes and sizes. There are Dryads, Fairies and you've already seen Pixies. Anyway the reason you need to know is that they're incredibly mischievous. They like causing pranks and problems, however they're all magical. So don't mess around with them because you can die. But the most important thing is their powers. Like we beast men do, the Fae have a ability too. But it doesn't change depending on the type of Fae like it does for beast men. Their power is words and names. If you enter a agreement with any Fae you MUST keep it. It becomes impossible to break it. Like here look at this." She opens the book to a page she had bookmarked. On it it tells a story of a Lyna who was tricked into an agreement. He was a soldier in the war who loved swordsmanship but hated killing. He wished to stop fighting and instead teach his sword skills to others for sport. A Fae heard him and came to him. They said that if the man agreed to help her with a problem she had then he wouldn't have to fight again. He was hesitant, but to tired of fighting and agreed. He followed the Fae to a large cage. Inside was a grizzly bear. The Fae told the man her problem was that, the bear kept eating all her food. However the Fae could only capture it, not kill it. The man, confused, walked up to the caged beast and killed it. He apologized to the bears corpse and turned back to the Fae. "Good, very good. Now you will never fight again!" They said before disappearing. The man didn't feel any different but returned to his home. He spent the rest of the day as normal. It wasn't until the next morning he found out what the Fae meant. He went to practice his swordsmanship as he did every morning since he was a boy. But this time the moment he picked up his sword he felt an unimaginable amount of pain coming from its handle. He dropped it and fell down. He tried again and again but he couldn't hold anything that would be considered a weapon. All swords, spears, daggers and even his kitchen knifes caused him pain. He cursed the Fae and spent the rest of his life in misery.

"So their magic can curse you?" I ask and Asami shakes her head no.

"It didn't curse him. The Fae made him unable to wield a sword so he couldn't fight. He agreed to a deal making it to where he would never fight again. The point of it is that you need to be very clear and detailed on any deals made with a Fae. Otherwise you could be tricked into losing what you love."

"Okay, so what about their names? You said that was another ability of theirs right?"

"Yes, you remember how Falvo had three Pixies? He had discovered their true names. All Fae have a name engraved onto their soul at birth. This name is something they'll never tell to anyone unless they absolutely trust them. Or if they get tricked into it. That's how Falvo did it. Anyway these names can control them. If you know it then you essentially have control of their life. If you order them with it, either in your thoughts or out loud, they'll obey it no matter what it is. You essentially can use them as your ****."
