Chapter 3 by Merlin678 Merlin678

Lore!

Factions of Idruinn

In addition to the nations in the world, there are a number of factions, some of whom hold loyalty to specific kingdoms, though many are steadfastly neutral in that regard, and many more are loyal only to the highest bidder.

Military Factions

The Rangers

The Rangers are a small, scattered organisation of mercenaries and monster hunters, with a reputation for honour and firm loyalty to whoever they have a contract with. There are typically only about 200 Rangers at a time, and all can be split into ranks. At the lowest, there are Apprentices, who are typically no older than 25. After their training is complete, an apprentice becomes a Yeoman, who travels around Idruinn, taking a variety of contracts and building both his personal reputation and the wider reputation of the Rangers as a whole. After many years as a Yeoman, the Ranger may progress to becoming a Master, a promotion which occurs (mostly, though there have been cases which differ) when a prospective Master takes on an Apprentice of their own. Masters will take on only one apprentice at a time, but may have several apprentices over their careers. Above this is the rank of Elder, though there are only 6 Elders at a time. The Elders serve as the leadership of the Rangers, with them electing one member as High Elder, a position which is held for 5 years. Most Rangers are Yeoman, trained in a variety of fighting styles, making use of many different weapons.

Religious Organisations

The Temples

The Temples is not a true organisation, instead being the colloquial name for the various temples found about Idruinn, each worshipping a particularly God or Goddess. Many larger cities have entire areas dedicated to temples, one such example being Priest Street in the city of Wardhurst, which is stated to have places of worship lining both sides from the market to the city walls.

Criminal Groups

The Strollan Rebels

Strola is a large, vibrant land, home to many, especially elves. Years ago, it fell under the ever-expanding gaze of the Atrian Empire, though their efforts were not entirely effective, leading to a number of cities on the southern coast under Atrian control, whilst most of the continent is at best untamed and at worst in open defiance. The Strollan Rebels are the latter. A patchwork alliance of both human and elven tribes, as well as a few dwarven city-states, the Strollan Rebels (as they are referred to by the Atrians), are steadfastly, and often violently, opposed to Atrian rule.
