Exeunt Mono

Kaida stared at the door. Then her head whipped around, toward the queen.

Her mouth moved.

The queen waited.

"Just like that?"

Just like that.

"You won't hunt me down?"

I won't hunt you down.

"...Why?"

Because I gave my word. And-

The queen smiled, and bent over. Kaida leaned back, as far as she could.

And S'r'n whispered, "We are so far beyond you now. All of you. All of us. We'll make this world into something you can't even imagine."

She straightened up, reached out, and patted Kaida on the head.

"And you...are just so small."

Kaida plunged out the door, into a nightmare. A nightmare of dark curves and green lights.

Somehow, she found a car, and a key. She slid behind the wheel, and looked over her shoulder, at the gate...

Which quietly slid open.

She smiled, grimly.

One last little joke from the queen.

When she peeled out the gate, mashed the pedal to the floor, and sent her Crown Vic roaring into the night, she wasn't going anywhere in particular.

Just...away.
