When you DEFEND YOUR HOUSE'S HONOR, roll +(your House Trait).

Camilla of House Beavertail challenges Martial of House Leontes to a chess game.

  • Example 10+: You win by catching Martial as he carelessly exposes a piece during an attack. Gain +1 XP. Martial begs you to teach him more about defensive style. Gain Martial as a FRIEND.
  • Example 7-9: You drag the game out, patiently fending off Martial's attacks, until he resigns in disgust. Gain +1 XP and Martial as an ENEMY.
  • Example 7-9: You fail to call attention that the chess clock is keeping bad time. When the time runs out for him, you win. Gain +1 XP and GET OUT OF TROUBLE when you are questioned about the clock.
  • Example Miss: You **** up and can't concentrate. Overwhelmed by your disgrace to the disadvantage of your House, you take a CONSEQUENCE.

When you ENCOUNTER another character (NPC), roll +(their House Trait), or +(your House Trait) if they're not in a House.

Garrick Battledore of Leontes was turned into a frog. He hops along, trying to find the Transformations Master, Protea Frond, to change him back.

  • Example 10+: "Well, hello, Garrick, what a pickle you've gotten yourself in," Mistress Frond says. "Let's fix you right up." Garrick removes a CONSEQUENCE and is no longer a frog.
  • Example 7-9: "Not now, whoever you are," Mistress Frond says. "I'm busy." Garrick does an elaborate song and dance, croaking and hopping around, until Mistress Frond loses patience and turns him back human, then dismisses him. However, his fingers and toes are still webbed and he has a croaky voice (he keeps a CONSEQUENCE). Next turn he goes to the Infirmary to see if they can fix him up. Roll to GET OUT OF THE INFIRMARY.
  • Example Miss: Kiki Misandra catches Garrick hopping along toward Miss Frond's office. "Gotcha!" she cries, and pops him into a jar with other frogs whom he recognizes to his dismay as being his classmates. Roll to GET OUT OF DANGER next turn.

When you HAVE SEX with another character, roll +(your House Trait).

Kiki Misandra of Minerval and Garrick Battledore have sex in the garden (once he's no longer a frog).

  • Example 10+ (Kiki as PC, Garrick as NPC): Kiki takes Garrick into a dark corner and rides him slowly and teasingly for her pleasure. Kiki gets +1 XP and is ready to HAVE SEX again, plus (Minerval Sex Move) she steals a magic spell from his mind, FLAMING ARROW.
  • Example 10+ (Garrick as PC, Kiki as NPC): Garrick gives Kiki a wonderful, multiorgasmic ride and feels redeemed from his miserable former frogness. Garrick gets +1 XP and loses a CONSEQUENCE, plus (Leontes sex move), has Kiki owe him a FAVOR.
  • Example 7-9: Kiki has sex with Garrick, but as she absorbs his magic spell, FLAMING ARROW, she reaches a massive climax and triggers flaming arrows streaking all over the garden, catching the hedges on fire. Kiki gains +1 XP and learns the spell FLAMING ARROW, and must GET OUT OF TROUBLE.
  • Example Miss: Minerval's House Master Oscar Whiplash catches Kiki being flamingly heterosexual with a rival House's student. He disapproves strenuously. Kiki must GET OUT OF TROUBLE.

When you ASK FOR A FAVOR, roll +AMBITION

  • Example 10+: "Sure, I'll help you out," your roommate says. "Anytime, let me know."
  • Example 7-9: "Well, maybe," Bettina says. "But you've been avoiding me all term. Meet me in the hayloft at free hour and let's talk about it, hmm?" (Roll to HAVE SEX with Bettina, and on a 7+ she'll owe you a FAVOR).
  • Example Miss: "It's not your place to beg a favor from your betters," Cyrus Wolf says, haughtily displaying his Prefect's pin. "Go out and make this thing happen yourself."

When you GET OUT OF DETENTION, roll +DILIGENCE

  • Example 10+: The laundress nods to the stacks of clean sheets. You rub your fingers together, itchy and dry from all the cloth you've folded. "You're free to go, Camilla," she says. You sigh, looking forward to bed tonight and getting back to class tomorrow.
  • Example 7-9: "THAT'S ENOUGH, OUT," the portress booms in her brassy voice. "It's YOUR business to KEEP out of TROUBLE next time!" Your shame at being caught using forbidden magic has been replaced by aches and bruises everywhere after all the hauling of broken wood and stone and shoveling and raking to cover over the damage. (You don't lose a CONSEQUENCE).
  • Example Miss: The groundskeeper frowns. "Guessing we've got another day or two for you to finish that ditch," he says. "Ye'd best apply yourself better." Roll to GET OUT OF DETENTION again.

When you GET OUT OF THE INFIRMARY, roll +BRAVERY

  • Example 10+: "Right as rain after a good night's sleep," Nurse says. "Didn't I tell you?" Remove a CONSEQUENCE and choose your next Move.
  • Example 7-9: You toss and turn, not sleeping well. But at least the terrible nightmares are gone. "Nurse, Nurse!" you call into the dark chamber. Roll +(HOUSE TRAIT) to ENCOUNTER the Nurse.
  • Example Miss: You wake up to the smell of scorched meat. Irritated, you roll over and the sheets scrape across your raw, burned limbs. You're on fire! You scream in terror and roll tightly into the sheets, trying to put the fire out. "Oh dear," Nurse says. "ASPERGIUS!" she cries, waving her wand. A shower of water condenses from the air and rains down on you, putting the fire out. "I can see we'll have you here a while longer, dear."

When you MAKE AMENDS, roll +BRAVERY

  • Example 10+: You shake hands. "I don't have to like you," Caspar says, "But we've got three more years together in House Beavertail, and I'm tired of hating you. But if you hurt Bettina, I'll be on you like a hawk on a mouse." Caspar is no longer your ENEMY.
  • Example 7-9: "Bettina?" you say. "Please, Caspar," Bettina begs. Caspar shrugs his shoulders. "For you." He turns to you. "All right, it's over. Don't cross me again." Expend a FAVOR from Bettina. Caspar is no longer your ENEMY.
  • Example Miss: "When you pulled that dirty trick to blacken my name with Bettina? Piss up a rope!" Caspar says. "Dirty trick?" Bettina says with a gasp. "I knew it. That wasn't Caspar's handwriting!" she cries. Caspar is still your ENEMY. Bettina is no longer your FRIEND.

When you GET OUT OF TROUBLE, roll +AMBITION

  • Example 10+: Headmistress Porcinilla laughs. "I did far, far worse things when I was a student," she says. "Now you two kiss and make up. No, no, REALLY kiss!"
  • Example 7-9: Headmistress Porcinilla nods. "I hope this lesson sinks in," she says. "In fact, to ensure that it does, you will copy out the essay On the Duties of a Draconian word for word, three times over, and be able to discuss it with me." Gain +1 XP and GET OUT OF DETENTION next turn.
  • Example Miss: "I forgive you," Headmistress Porcinilla says. "But I expect Bettina never will. It was a harder lesson for her than for you." Bettina is no longer your FRIEND.

When you GET OUT OF DANGER, roll +BRAVERY

The kraken-witch Shabaree leers at you as she holds Susan and Caspar helpless in her tentacles. "Kissy kissy!" she mocks, pressing them together at lips and moving them apart. "Ooo! Did you want to join them?"

  • Example 10+: "Shabaree," you reply. "You have no business with them. And you have no other power over me. SUSPENDU INFERNUM!" you cry, manifesting a burning ring of fire that hovers above Shabaree's head. She fails to dismiss the threatening mass of fire. "Very well, Garrick," she says. She releases them, and they scramble to the foot of the stairs behind you. You say, "Now let's talk about what I came for, the Heart of the Sea." Roll to ENCOUNTER Shabaree at +1.
  • Example 7-9: "Shabaree, unhand them!" you cry. The crackle of magic passes between you. Though your shock bolts cause her tentacles to flail, releasing Susan, Shabaree retreats, clutching Caspar. "I like this one!" she crows. "I claim him for my own." You call to Susan, "Go get help!" and follow Shabaree and Caspar. "All right, Shabaree, let's deal," you say. Roll to ENCOUNTER Shabaree to get her to give Caspar back.
  • Example Miss: Shabaree casts a magical barrier in front of you. "That's enough meddling, Garrick," she says. "I claim these as my own." She weaves a dark spell, holding two tentacles poised at her captives' mouths and between their buttocks. As the tentacles lance inward, penetrating Susan and Caspar, they convulse, their cries stifled by Shabaree's tentacles. Caspar's member erects. Susan's toes curl, her great toes snapping against the second toe, a sure tell that she's climaxing. Caspar ejaculates his seed as the tentacles writhe in his bowels. Their forms shift, their legs multiplying and flailing into the form of tentacles. "My disciples!" Shabaree says. She withdraws down the tunnel and into the water, holding her new scions gently as they hang limp in her tentacles.

When you CONFRONT YOUR ENEMY, roll +House Trait

  • Example 10+: (With Ambition) "I heard one of your Prefect friends noising out your plans," you say. "You're caught fair and square. Let's call it a day so we avoid the tedium of reporting this."
  • Example 10+: (With Bravery) "You can't use your wand while I've got you in a lock, and the first magical syllable, I bash your head into the wall," you say. "You're caught fair and square."
  • Example 10+: (With Cunning) "I know what you're after, Caspar," you say, "And it's not here. You're caught fair and square."
  • Example 10+: (With Diligence) "I changed the locks, Caspar," you say. "And I told the Prefect how you get in. You're caught fair and square."
  • Example 7-9: "Never. Let's have this out!" Caspar says. You agree. You and your seconds meet in a disused hallway for a private magical duel. Roll to have a MAGICAL DUEL with Caspar.
  • Example Miss: Caspar spits at your feet. "You're not worthy to lick my boots, worm," he says. "But noblesse oblige." His hand darts forward. As you duck his face strike, Caspar curls his hand, grabs you by the hair and presses your face to his boots. "Lick!" You wrench yourself away. "Never!" you cry. Caspar retorts, "You'll beg for it!" His minions twist your hands behind your back. You cry out with the pain. "Now, lick, worm!" Take a CONSEQUENCE from the pain and embarrassment.

When you have a MAGIC DUEL, roll +CUNNING

  • Example 10+: Your spell connects first, and you bat his aside. Caspar's wand goes flying. Gain +1 XP. "You just wait," he grumbles threateningly, then withdraws, pulled along by his second.
  • Example 7-9: In the heat of anger, you both cast STUN spells at full ****, neglecting defense. Your head rings, your vision blurs, and you fall to the floor, but not before seeing Caspar suffering the same fate. Gain +1 XP and next turn, GET OUT OF THE INFIRMARY.
  • Example Miss: Caspar's stun bolt sears your nerves. He laughs in victory, making your head hurt worse. Next turn: GET OUT OF THE INFIRMARY.

When you CAST A SPELL, roll +CUNNING

"ADDUC CERVESIAM!" you cry, showing off your ability to fetch a pitcher of beer from a distance.

  • Example 10+: The pitcher sails through a graceful arc and slides gently to a stop in the center of your table.
  • Example 7-9: Your spell lights on the pitcher the barmaid has just picked up. As she feels the tug, she holds on tighter and is dragged by the **** of your spell across the room, the toes of her shoes scraping lines in the sawdust of the floor. "I'll thank you to keep your spells to yourself, wizard!" she cries, stalking off in a huff. The bartender frowns at you. "Drink that one up and go," he says.
  • Example Miss: With a clatter and a bugling complaint, a buck red deer is dragged through the sliding doors of the bar. Wild-eyed, it bugles again as the spell pulls it towards you. Caspar laughs, "Was that CERVIS or CERVIDIS?" he mocks. Roll a CUSTOM MOVE vs. BRAVERY to dodge or physically fend off the deer, or CAST A SPELL at -1 to hurriedly reverse the Fetch spell.
