Chapter 22

Do they put their guns away?
Eventually
The two keep pointing their guns at me.
I shrug, “I do get it. You were not prepared. But tell me: Would you have believed me without the demonstration?”
“I suppose not…” Bravo keeps it pointed at me.
Charlie lowers his, “I suppose it didn't work the first time.”
“She's not bluffing?” Bravo slowly follows suit.
“I am not,” I chuckle… which, sadly, comes out as a stupidly girly giggle.
“I can confirm I landed a shot on her chest,” Charlie cringes as he sheathes his weapon. “Okay, you showed us. This place had a nuclear meltdown, we really shouldn't be here. Take us back.” He pauses, “Please. Ma'am.”
“All right…” I focus and cast, focus and cast, focus and cast… and in eighteen seconds, we're all back in the kitchen.
“That's going to be one hell of a video…” Bravo blinks as he's back.
“I am not looking forward to the commander's reaction to the report,” Charlie cringes.
“Oh, the recording stopped before the spell,” I chuckle, but it comes out super vapid again, “You'll need to make your report without it.”
“You're evil,” Bravo stares at me flatly.
“Well, you have a couple choices…” I begin, smiling, I start with my index finger, “First, you can tell your commander the truth. Tell him I whisked you away with magic and brought you back… with no evidence, due to the stopped recording. How far do you think that will get you?” I give them a moment to process that, add my middle finger, “Two, you can attempt to arrest or kill me.” I then smile, “I'm sure you can guess how effective it is to arrest a teleporter, and you already tried shooting me.” Oh, ugh, I really need to figure out how to make my chuckle sound less girly, I add my ring finger, “Three, you can give your commander some believable story about an equipment malfunction and me being harmless.” I put my hand down. “Now… I really am harmless: I have no intention of undermining this great country: Best one on Earth. But… well, your call.”
Charlie begins, “I'll write a harmless report, I think…” The Diplomacy skill rocks, by the way.
“I'll back you on it,” Bravo nods slowly, “I mean… if she wanted to **** someone… is there anything stopping her from just making us free fall?” The rules actually do prevent me from dropping an enemy somewhere inherently hostile… unless I grab the talent for it. But dropping someone in the sky would be one way to kill them…drop them adjacent to something tall and it looks like suicide… I could swap out the Destruction talent… huh.
“Thank you,” I smile as they pack up and leave, because thw amile masks the ache in my chest. Ugh. I'm NOT giving those two powers.
I wait until they leave, then I run to Alice, letting the pain show, “Who? Who can be trusted?”
“Oh. It flares up when…” see frowns.
“Around new people, yes,” I cringe. “Get me someone. Fast. Please.” It hurts… I have to give it away.
Alice thinks… then answers.
Who drinks?
