Chapter 21

What does Jane have planned? Does it work?

Escape plan

“Just hold on, girls! I’m coming for you!” Said Caroline, as she made her way back to her friends. “I swear, if that beast hurt any of them, I’ll flay it and wear it as a coat!”

Shakes meowed, almost as in confirmation to Caroline’s statement, as the two sprinted through the hall.

“You sure this will work, Jane?” Asked Alex while placing a mirror from the wall against the lockers.

“No. But it’s the only plan we got.”

“Well, that’s reassuring…” Shouted Sarah sarcastically.

Jane wanted to retaliate, but Kyle interrupted. “I don’t think we could hold out for much longer. We better be quick!”

“We will, just hide next to that locker.” Ordered Jane.

“Wait, let me be the bait.” Begged Alex. “I know you feel guilty about earlier, but getting yourself killed won’t solve anything!”

Jane rested her hands on Alex shoulders and tilted her head. “Alex, sweetheart. I know you detest gambles of any kind. But this is the safest bet. You know I’m faster than you. This way, we could all survive.”

“But-“

“No buts. Just trust me, I got this.” Alex reluctantly turned to the locker, trembling from the stress.

As Alex, Kyle and Sarah hid by the locker, Jane stood with her back against the wall. If not for the faint light coming from the tiny windows, the room would be pitch black. Jane knew that there was a good chance that this could kill her, and she was fine with that. For as long as Alex was safe.

The Ripper broke through the door, searching for the gang. Just straight ahead she saw Jane, staring straight in her eyes. She moved her hind legs up, and pounced at Jane.

Or rather, her reflection.

By placing a few mirrors at a angle, they created the illusion that Jane stood in front of it. The mirror shattered, covering the Ripper in glass shards.

“MOVE IT!” The gang sprinted out of the gym, the beast no longer following suit. Instead, she started caring for her wounds.

Far away from the gym, Alex cheered. “It worked! It actually worked!”

“Didn’t I tell you so?”

“I mean, you didn’t seem to have that much fate in it either.” Said Alex.

“Sure, it was a gamble, but still…”

When the gang returned to the lounge, they saw someone resting in a chair.

“Wait, there’s someone else here?” Asked Alex.

Who is it?
