Eron clears his throat nervously. “Uh – well, the main way out is sealed at the moment,” he says. “The outcasts control who goes in and out…”

He holds up his hands as Lux glares at him. “But! If – if I reach the inner core, if I can wake up the Great Machine, then we get back control – it can open the way out.”

“And, let me guess, the Outcasts are in the way,” Lux says.

“Well. Y-yes.” Eron nods reluctantly. “But once the Machine is awake, they – they won’t get the better of it a second time.” He stares at her pleadingly. “I just have to get to the core. You’ll – you will help. Won’t you?”

Lux maintains her glare, but she can see no sign that he’s trying to deceive her. “Fine,” she says finally. “Which way?”
