What do you do?
Enter the vault.
If the rest of the dungeon was beautifully constructed then this chamber is fit for a king. Gorgeous columns line the walls with all sorts of carvings made in the stone of various people and animals, like a display of many ancient stories you can't read without words, yet feel the importance just by casting your eyes upon it. The craftsmanship is precise. Solid gold and silver line much of it--platinum too, though kept specifically to decorate the stars which sparkle bright as they reflect the light from one, huge enchanted lantern that hangs from the ceiling's center.
You remember how Rada Beela explained it some time ago, when speaking with Eva.
"I don't understand." Eva places a hand to her chest and swallows. "Were magic eaters not demons?"
"Not at all. If anything, they appeared more similar to that of elves, though with a faint tint of blue to their skin. The most obvious mark that would give them away is a single star shape, right here," he says as he taps his finger against his forehead. "I can't pretend that I was there. But if there were other magic eaters like your mother, then I believe the stories about them may not be all that true. I hope you can understand now. I didn't wish you to grow up as a mage hated by all other mages alive."
It's a shame to see such a beautiful civilization fall, likely due to the prejudice of what they were capable of doing more than what they actually did. They were a magically advanced people, though possessed the ability to consume large quantities of magic, and therefore they were both feared and hated. That's your understanding anyway. Some did live, like Eva's mother, though you've never met another. They're even more rare than djinn or kitsunes. Weirdly enough, they may be even harder to find than somebody else from Earth.
The floating device stops in the middle of the room--metallic hands hovering beneath it still. The fingers fidget, just like they would from a real, living person. You can't help but wonder what exactly the elven automaton meant by what it said earlier.
You don't need to wonder for long, however, as it speaks now that you're all within the vault.
"My name is Havaea Luadar, famed elven jeweller, weaponsmith, and artificer from a time centuries passed. As you can see, few bodies are able to live for that many years, so both my consciousness and my soul were transplanted by way of a revolutionary, albeit dangerous, operation to be placed into the construct that hovers before you."
"Woah!" Eva approaches before anybody else, and as bold as it may be, she even takes hold of one of its hands. "That's incredible. So you really are a person? And one from that long ago. I've never met somebody so old."
"It is not like I age any longer, so I do not know how I feel about being called old."
"And it feels like I'm really grabbing somebody's hand. It's even warm."
"That is the flow of magic within it, and the unseen tether between both those and the receptacle that contains my core. Ah, it is somewhat embarrassing to be complimented so much by a stel'ae. They were truly masters of the craft. As much as I am willing to toot my own horn, I could only compete to a certain degree."
"... So you really were around back then? Before most of them were killed?"
"Indeed I was. I am sorry, that you could not see them in their prime. What is your name?"
"Eva Beela," she answers without hesitation. "It's good to meet you, Ms. Luadar."
"An honour to meet you as well." The hands move in a way to touch an invisible chest and bow. One could almost imagine where the body would be. Then the head turns to where the cyan lens locks onto your body. More specifically, downward. She isn't looking at anything lewd, however, but your hand. "Is that--"
The device hovers quickly past Eva and lowers itself down to inspect what you assume to be your ring--Tol'vuus, loosely translated to Ring of Sucking. It has the wolf head symbol of Tivera, proving not only that you were once a knight of the Empire, but that you're now closely tied to them as a fellow leader.
"My signet ring?" you ask. "Queen Catherine II gave it to me as a reward for helping protect the Empire of Tivera. It can absorb magic, store it, and then dish it back out. Its name is--"
"Tol'vuus," she says. "I know. I made it."
Your eyes widen. "What?"
"It looks different now. Somewhat. It has been redecorated with a symbol I assume to be this Empire of Tivera you mention. Back when I was flesh, there were all manner of human nations at war, though much of this land was filled with bunnyfolk and catfolk. Perhaps Tivera existed then, but I do not remember, as I did not care. But there can be no mistake. That is Tol'vuus, one of the trinkets I forged with the aid of the stel'ae's knowledge of magical craftsmanship."
"Is it an insult to you that it's been cosmetically changed?"
"No. Not at all. You may draw your phallus on there if you wish. It not only still functions after all this time, but it is actively being used, so that is the highest honour I could receive. What is your name?"
"Kyle Warren," you answer, and with no need to hold anything back, you add, "A traveller from another world. Earth."
The saucer makes a soft whirring noise when it moves, especially quickly, which you hear as it zips back up to eye level. The lens stares at you closely. "A stel'ae, and a visitor from another world. Isekai Theory. Of course. Nothing should surprise me, but perhaps I have been dormant for too long, because I am in awe of this situation."
