Chapter 30 by Rhubarb Rhubarb

End of First Week

By the end of the week, you’re getting into the swing of things. You’ve had first lessons with all your classes. You’ve acclimatised yourself to the girls. You’re starting to feel this could be a future. It’s helped that the Lower Sixth is easier than you imagined and the Upper Sixth is predictable. You’re comfortable with the syllabus. You’re certain you can teach these girls something.

Maybe this new life isn’t going to be the disaster you feared. The only problem you have is being constantly surrounded by nubile, attractive girls in short skirts and white blouses. Your mind keeps drifting to thoughts you shouldn’t be entertaining. Memories of teenage fantasies keep intruding every time you sit down with a new class. You were never like this before. Samantha claimed you had a low sex drive. You definitely had a lower one than she did. Now, though, you find thoughts of sex slipping readily into mind.

Friday lunchtime sees you sitting in your office, entertaining both Abigail and Mrs Oversight. It’s a regular weekly checkup, to iron out any problems. You’ve only occupied the office for a couple of weeks, but their presence still feels intrusive.

“You’ve not done much with the place,” Abigail points out.

“Yes, it still has her mark on everything,” Mrs Oversight agrees. “You should personalise it, appropriately.”

You leave it at that. The meeting doesn’t last long. You don’t have much to talk about. Neither do the others.

{if Abigail = 1}Except Abigail.

“We must talk about Miss Golden. You’ve seen my report on what she tried to do.”

“I’ve read it, and my understanding is that you handled it.”

“She’ll try again.”

“And you’ll handle it again. Miss Golden is staying in your class, because that’s what her father is paying to happen. You’ll be professional and handle it.”

Abigail is not impressed, but against Mrs Oversight there’s nothing she can do.

The meeting ends quickly. Mrs Oversight disapproves of your office again, before stating, “It still smells of her. Hopefully that will fade over time.” Then she leaves.

“She doesn’t like Miss Wandering?” you ask Abigail.

Abigail shrugs. “I thought they got on fine. Totally surprised me when I heard she’d been sacked. Then again, she was odd. Never really knew her. But some of the girls loved her. And the others hated her. Not much in between. Mrs Oversight’s right, though, you should personalise this room more. You must have some artifacts you can put on these shelves. Something to get the girls interested.”

She smiles and then suggests lunch.
