Empty threats and tavern rooms

Quinara leads me out of the alley and into the city proper, instantly I'm hit by how we're no longer firmly in the land of humans, sure most of the people where human, but I saw elves, dwarfs even a centaur roaming the bustling winter streets. I keep close to Quinara as she leads me with purpose down the winding roads, as we walk I see two city watch approaching as we walked in opposite directions down the street, as they get closer and closer my heart goes wild expecting them to identify us. However it seems as though Quinara was right as they pass us with only a passing glance, "holy shit that was close" I say in relief to Quinara, she chuckles softly "it really wasn't runt, you're just panicking".

We continue briefly till we find a small run down looking tavern in the lower city, the golden dagger the sign read, "charming name" I remark as we enter. It's certainly not the finest establishment but it certainly seemed like no one who drank here would be seen dead talking to the city watch, plus Quinara went straight here so I trusted it. Quinara stands at the bar, "one room, two beds" she states tossing a pouch of coins to the barkeep, "sure" he says heading into a back room. "Wait one room? Shouldn't we get separate rooms I mean we have the money?" I ask mostly because I didn't want her further teasing about my cock, "this isn't the kind of place you want to be showing off money by booking two rooms" Quinara replies. The barkeep returns with a room key "top floor on the left" he says handing it to Quinara.

With key in hand we head towards the stairs before a man at a table stops us, "I know you, you were on that dock job last summer" he says to Quinara. She nods "as were you" they stare each other down getting the measure of each other before he speaks again "you working?" She nods again "yeah protection, you?" He nods as well "yeah bounty hunting" his eyes focus on me, oh shit he knows, my eyes dart to Quinara who's as calm and collected as always "are we going to have a problem?" She asks balling her hands into fists, the man chuckles "I don't have a **** wish, I've seen you fight... Besides plenty of other bounties out there for me. Have a good night" chills run up my spine from his words as we continue to the stairs.

"Oh god we can't stay here" I say once we're safely in our room, "relax runt" Quinara says. "How can I relax? That guy knows who we are and knows where we're sleeping" I say keeping my voice low as I wanted no one to listen in, Quinara put he hand on my shoulder "good thing we don't have two rooms then" she jokes. "I don't know how you can joke right now" I say sitting on my bed and putting my face in my hands, "listen runt, you spend as much time doing mercenary work as me and you start to get a read on guys like that, he'd absolutely kill us no questions asked if he could. But that's it, IF he could, he knows he can't fight me and there's one thing mercs like him value more than money, it's being alive to spend it." I lift my head from my hands, "ok I trust you, but I don't like it".
