After all, it’s not like he didn’t enjoy it!
Easing worries
In the aftermath, Kael lies in bed with Evie, simply enjoying the closeness. It’s too early for sleep, but they’re both too comfortable to want to move. After a while, though, they rise, and get dressed, though neither of them are able to stop smiling.
As they finish putting on their clothes, Kael turns to Evie. “So…that was interesting. I don’t think I’ve seen you so…assertive before.”
Evie blushes, looking at her feet. “Well, master…seeing Miss Ria, and then when she kissed me…well, it made me feel so…”
She giggles, looking at Kael. “I’ll just say I’m looking forward to seeing her again, master!”
Kael laughs. “Fair enough. So, you’re sure this is what you want? The three of us?”
Evie nods, a smile on her face. “Yes, master! I knew immediately when I spoke with Miss Ria earlier, and I was even more sure tonight. I know your feelings, master, and seeing how she looked at you tonight…yes.”
She blushes again. “Plus…she’s really pretty, master. And so fun! I like her a lot.”
Kael chuckles, and walks over to Evie, putting an arm around her. The petite elven woman leans against him with a soft sigh. “Well, as long as you’re happy, Evie. That’s important to me.”
He feels her nod. “Of course I am, master. I meant what I said, love is something that you have more of when you give it away.”
Evie smiles up at him. “And now, I have a kitchen to clean, master!”
She bounces up on her toes to kiss him, before walking out of the room. Once again, she’s humming a happy tune. Kael smiles, watching her go, and then sighs to himself. The lingering doubts he had about this…situation have eased, and if he’s honest with himself, he’s looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Kael straightens the bedsheets, his mind reeling with possibilities. And the one doubt he still has, the reason he and Ria separated previously, seems like less of an issue, somehow. After all, with war coming soon, they’ll all be protecting each other anyway.
And that triggers another thought. Kael wonders what Lord Greyheart would think of all of this. Kael shrugs to himself. He would probably be happy as long as Evie is happy. At least, that’s what Kael is telling himself.
It’s a problem for another day, anyway…
