The Rocket Grunt sends out his pokemon, but it’s only a measly Rattata. Emilia’s gotten five badges with her Dugtrio, so it must be stronger than a Rattata, right? Guess you’re about to find out.

“Okay Rattata, use Quick Attack!”

“Dugtrio, Sand Attack.”

Rattata lunges at Dugtrio at full speed, only to meet a screen of sand and go careening past its target.

The grunt maintains his enthusiasm. “Shoot, Rattata’s accuracy is down! Wait, this feels familiar… Rattata, use Bite!”

Again, Rattata goes fully on the offensive, without regard towards what its opponent might do.

“Dugtrio, Dig.”

Rattata’s teeth slam into the ground where Dugtrio used to be, making the rat pokemon wince. A couple seconds later, a hole opens up beneath Rattata. Your opponent’s pokemon falls inside, and only thrashing sounds can be heard from the darkness underground. Another few seconds later, and Rattata is launched back to the surface, unable to battle any longer.

“Looks like it’s my win,” you comment nonchalantly. The crestfallen kid returns his pokemon to its pokeball, and you’re already walking over to him with your hands in your lab coat pockets and your lips curled into a frown. “Alright kid. No more games. Tell me what you know, or else.”

“A-Are you still gonna beat me up?” he asks, trembling as he backs away.

“That depends on your answers.”
