Chapter 8 by Verdant_Hatchling Verdant_Hatchling

What happened?

Dragon stuff.

A mighty horn began to resound throughout the chamber he was within, though it quickly spread, reaching thousands of miles away. Hundreds of kingdoms had heard the blaring sounds, and many of them knew the cause. Only one such case had happened before.

If it were the same as before.

A being of immense power was calling Dragons to their side. To become the scourge of humanity, wanting nothing more than to sow the destruction of all sentient races other than those of Draconic descent.

A mighty war would soon break out. The tens of kingdoms in the know became hundreds, then thousands, as the threat was made apparent to all. Thousands of heroes from far off lands were made aware of the newest Dragonlord, a being of terror to this world, rivaling even the Demon King.

Many heroes would soon begin to gather for the coming crisis. All the while, Damon was waiting for the results of the horn.

And he waited.

Until suddenly, a roar responded. And with that roar, a mighty Golden Dragon flew through the opening in the roof. Damon prepared the Rod for use, but the dragon interrupted him.

“Where did you get Arathnovaal, you must have stolen that from the crypt. That is a sin beyond any redemption, you will die for what you have done.” The Dragon roared out, lunging its titanic figure at Damon.

But Elgy wouldn’t let that happen, his own colossal body forcing it to the ground, his many heads wrapping around the golden form, the Dragon bit off a few heads in the process, but of course, more sprouted, and began to chomp at the Golden Dragon, who promptly roared, straining his musculature to its maximum.

To no avail, though, as the various necks of Elgy tightened around his form, depriving the mighty beast of its precious air.

Damon rose from the throne, and slowly walked towards the subdued Dragon, looking at his hands as stepped. He had Elgy release the exhausted Dragon on the floor recovering, slowly stabilizing.

“Well, apparently, I’m the new Dragon King, and a God gave me this thing.” He smacked the Dragon across the head with the rod, denting its enormous skull, leaving it dazed. “And you wouldn’t really make a good servant.” Damon looked across the Dragon which came to kill him, breathing deeply inwards.

A glint was in his eyes, then he released a ferocious blast, burning the mighty Dragon to a cinder, regardless of his resistances. Elgy ran up to the body, and though the char was not his preference, he began to eat it anyway, chowing down on the Dragon corpse.

Damon wiped a smile from his face, as he witnessed the fierce Dragon being reduced to Elgy’s meal. He Teleported back to his throne, taking the seat again.

As he was preparing to call another, he heard a gentle flapping begin to approach. Then, a much smaller Dragon flew through the hole.

The slender, silver form landed before the throne, Elgy leaping from his meal to immobilize the Dragon, much easier than before, notably.

Though the Dragon did not resist, instead prostrating itself before him. “I am Dovei Argentum, Silver Dragon of the Chromatic Council, I… I can tell by the surroundings that Rathalian the Gold has fallen, I…”

She went to continue, but was interrupted, “I am Damon Steel, The Dragon King! I have been told as such by the God of this world.” He gazed deeply into her eyes.

Dovei Argentum. She was by far, admittedly, the weakest member of the Chromatic Council. The constant butt of countless assaults and ‘pranks’ on the defenseless Dragon from the more powerful of them. Specifically so, Rathalian was an ever present source of such actions.

Knowing that the mighty Rathalian the Gold had fallen to a mere breath attack, as it appeared, this being was most definitely blessed, but by a God? She was not extremely familiar with the human religions, but the Goddess of the world was a constant amongst all races. Who else besides her would be capable of creating a being as strong as this one? Could he just be lying?

But then a sudden insight. Only one such figure among the long mythologies of the world fit the bill, the almighty’s father, Earus, The Inception of All, a distant concept now, but once the prevailing religion, but he stepped away for his daughter to take over.

As Dovei was deeply in contemplation, Damon was watching her intensely, suddenly snapping his fingers, Elgy immediately unhanding the diminutive Dragon, going back to eating the body of the Golden failure. Dovei remained prostrated before him.

Once again, Damon stood from his throne, walking to the kneeling Dragon. He approached the maw of Dovei, a hand gently embracing beneath her chin. He slowly brought her gaze to meet his, as she began to blush. Without thinking of the personal feelings of the Dragon before him, he simply stated, “You're small for a Dragon.” Her gaze suddenly steeled, a stern expression replacing the awe from before.

But a devious grin was donned upon his face, as he cast Dragon’s Presence.

Dovei, who had gained some semblance of comfort through the discussion, was suddenly drenched in sweat, as much as a Dragon physically could. A vast feeling of dread spread through her entire being, as she could sense an immense deathly gaze upon her soul.

Damon was quick to tease, “Is this not enough?” He laughed harshly as his devious intentions boiled over.
