Draconic History Lesson

“Many centuries ago, there were only two major magic users. You know them as the Jedi and the Sith. Smaller clan based magic existed, but for the most part, it was just these two. It was at the peak of their power that dragons first appeared, with Sith Lords riding them into battle. Before that day, never a dragon was seen,” Lady **** told John as she began her story. John listened intently as she began the story. Right off the bat, however, John was hit with a whammy of dragon lore: they did not always exist. John’s face contorted in confusion as he heard this, and his storyteller noticed immediately.

“You thought dragons always existed, yes? Most people believe that. There are few who lived long enough to remember the world without them. When the world was far more peaceful. While there is no proof, it is believed the Sith used their dark alchemy on wyverns and twisted them into dragons. Many believe that wyverns are merely weaker cousins to dragons, but they are the prototype, the original, the base form,” she explained to John. “We never did find their twisted lab where they contorted the regal wyverns into terrifying dragons. We understood why they chose wyverns, however. They were peak predators of their era, with many Jedi and Sith losing their lives to them. Many early types of magic were formed just to fend off these majestic beasts. The Sith twisted them, making them larger, more powerful, more intelligent, and more cruel,” she told John, who took it all in.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a Wyvern,” was all John could mutter out as he heard the tale the embodiment of **** told him.

“Hmm, no you would not,” admitted the mighty Dead Goddess. “They are exceedingly rare. I believe you sometimes see them in the Amazon Forest area as well as some places in Europe. Mainly where powerful families have set up sanctuaries for the rarer Abyssal creatures,” Lady **** told John. “I believe the Golden Rose runs many of them. Perhaps in penitence of what they did? After all, they were the main cause of the near extinction for many of these creatures,” explained Lady ****. “I believe there are one or two in North America, although I do not know if they are still there maintaining it after you drove them off the continent,” mused Lady ****.

“If you tell me where they are, I will look into it,” John told her, who merely nodded at him.

“Now, let us continue,” said Lady **** as she continued her story. “The Sith’s new weapon caught the Jedi off guard and **** them to ground and the Era of the Sith Empire began. “My daughters and I were quite busy during that era. So much wanton **** and destruction, but would pale in comparison to what would come later. Eventually, the Sith Empire would fall with a two prong attack: the combined forces of the Jedi and various clans, and the release of their draconic **** mounts,” Lady **** told John.

“Let me guess: an intelligent and powerful species did not like being enslaved?” asked John, who already knew the answer.

“Turns out, no, no they did not,” confirmed Lady ****. “The dragons were more than happy to ally with the Jedi and take down the Sith. Their defeat was so absolute that the Sith were never able to cling to large amounts of land or power again. They operated in the shadows, never showing their true numbers or strength. Most think they are merely myths passed down from ancient oral traditions. The same with the Jedi who, after this war, would lose their own status. The dragons deemed humanity weak and parasites on the planet, and launched a genocide against them. They spread across the world, destroying cities and towns, slaughtering millions. The Jedi were decimated as they tried to protect and evacuate all those towns and cities, heroically sacrificing themselves to ensure the civilians were safe. The bloodshed was too much, even for us gods,” Lady **** told him with a somber look upon her face.

“So, what did you gods do?” asked John, very curious about the answer.

“We met. We talked. Gaia convinced us we must protect the planet, and its inhabitants, from the unnatural abominations that were destroying it,” she told him. “So the gods humans prayed to to end the **** finally answered. In ****. Great battles were waged. Humans riding into battle with their patron god, with many wiped out entirely. For it was when we entered the war, we realized how the Sith were able to create dragons: they reached into the darkness beyond the stars and accepted gifts no one should accept. Gaia was right, dragons were abominations. Unholy fusion of wyverns, Sith alchemy, and powers from outside our reality. Power that none on this plane should ever use, and they did. Not only that, but they were trying to connect the beings which helped create them, in order to get more power,” explained Lady ****, her voice somber and full of sadness.

“It was at this final battle that my beloved Izanami lost her husband, Izanagi, who was torn in half in front of her, his blood staining her face. That broke her. She went into a berzerker rage and slaughtered every dragon she saw. Even the ones we were struggling with, their imperfect next step of evolution could not withstand her powerful blows filled with anger and rage. But all that **** broke her, as you have seen with your own eyes,” Lady **** explained to John.

“Where was their base? How were you able to attack it?” asked John, curious as to how the story would end.

“You know their base well. After all, you are currently living in it,” Lady **** told him in a cool tone.

“I...wait..what?” asked John. “Mrs. Wentworth was the one that told me about that place…” John told Lady ****, who merely nodded.

“Well of course she told you about it, she was there with us. She was a young woman back then, but very skilled in all things magic. She was able to contact the traitor in the draconic ranks, who saw what its kind was doing and wanted no part of it. We were informed of the secret entrance and used that as a beachhead. The Golden Rose lost many troops that day, as the vanguard of our forces. But watching the Sword, Spear, and Shield Wardens in unison was truly a sight to behold. It is a shame they no longer work together. If they did, your war would have ended far differently, John Newman,” Lady **** informed him.

“Wait, Mrs. Wentworth also gave me an egg. Was that a spoil of war?” asked John.

“It was. I am not entirely sure where she got the egg from, but that is or rather was thought to be, the last dragon egg. Anyways, we stormed the castle and fought their leader, Dragon King Krellious, who had learned what we later named Void Magic. Dragons were the only known users of it. It decimated our troops. Many gods were lost to time during that fight, but we prevailed. Krellious was defeated and the dragons exterminated. We examined the castle’s dungeons and found many horrific things. The experiments. The failed summonings. They were trying to summon the horrors into our realm, and when that didn’t work, they tried to make avatars for them. And one locked door. No matter what we did, we could not open it. But I swear I heard crying coming from behind the door,” Lady **** said with a sad inflection in her voice. “Anyways, the dragons were utterly destroyed, or so we thought. It seems they have returned and are interested in you, John Newman. Your new home was once their capital. I am sure they would like it back,” she said.
