Dolan VS Pyrrha

Wanting to limit the damage inside the lecture hall Glynda and Ozpin moves the fighting outside to an empty patch of grass where the two combatants could fight as they see fit. This was also because the two facing each other both had combat experience under their belts. The first of which was Pyrrha Nikos who garnered the title "Invincible Girl" for winning the Mistral Reginal Tournament four times in a row a very impressive feat to accomplish. Then there is Dolan Knight, Vales's strongest huntsman thanks in part to his master who trained him in the ways of "Aura Manipulation", and unlike Pyrrha, Dolan possesses actual field experience from taking on requests from Headmaster Ozpin as well as Headmaster Theodore of Vacuo. Regardless of who wins this fight of 'experience vs innate talent', Ozpin knew this fight might serve to strengthen the newest batch of students' drive to better themselves.

Ozpin: Dolan a word if you will.

Just as Dolan was about to take his position opposite of Pyrrha Ozpin calls him over to speak to him on the side.

Dolan: Ok so what is it you wanted to talk about you walking "caffeine patch"?

Ozpin: ...?

Ozpin: *ahem* Well as you are already aware I've forbidden you from displaying your abilities out in public, correct?

Dolan: Yeah, yeah ever since I put that hole in the side of that mountain you requested that I suppress my abilities as to not cause any 'incident', right? But come on the hole wasn't that big!

Ozpin: It was two meters wide.

Dolan: Exactly! That's hardly any reason to ask me to hold myself back when I could have easily made the hole bigger! Besides, other than Coco's team who agreed to keep quiet; none of the other miners saw me do it. To them, they just figured one of us used some sort of crazy weapon is all.

Ozpin: This conversation is getting off track Dolan.

Dolan: Well, you shouldn't have brought it up in the first place.

Ozpin: ... Well, regardless I just wanted to let you know that just for this fight I'll permit you to 'showoff'. But try not to do too much damage to the school or your junior, please.

Dolan: Very well then, guess I'll try and put on a good show, deuces!

After finishing his conversation with the headmaster, Dolan quickly makes his way to the empty field where Pyrrha is waiting for him.

Dolan: Apologizes for the wait, Ms. Nikos.

Pyrrha: It's fine and would it be alright with you if you just called me Pyrrha instead of Ms. Nikos?

Dolan: Perfectly fine. So, shall we begin?

Pyrrha: Whenever you're ready Dolan.

Dolan: Pyrrha? Class is still in session; that's "Mr. Knight" to you~

Unlike the previous fights, Dolan brandishes the prop sword in hand and takes a battle stance. Pyrrha was fully aware that this wasn't going to be an easy fight considering she has no idea how Dolan will fight with an actual weapon in hand since throughout the majority of the class he was only ever using his bare hands. Still, this didn't deter her from readying herself for the fight in front of her. Now all was left but to see what she was in for and plan accordingly.

Dolan starts by sprinting toward Pyrrha to get her in close range. Considering how dangerous her opponent was with his fists the best option Pyrrha thought was to keep him at a distance by morphing her weapon "Miló" into its spear form and proceeds to launch multiple thrusts to force Dolan back. Both fighters match each other's attack blow for blow leaving neither one of them any room to land a solid hit. Pyrrha was a little bit surprised on why the fake sword Dolan was using, could be so durable enough to be able to trade strikes with her spear but didn't have time to question it any further as when Dolan managed to parry one of her strikes leaving her open. As she went to guard herself, she was caught off guard when instead of attacking her, Dolan strikes the ground with his sword with enough force to kick up the dirt into the air creating a smokescreen. Given this was the perfect opportunity for Dolan to strike her she quickly leaps out of the cloud of dirt and ready's herself for whatever was next.

Within an instant, a blur of smoke came shooting out towards Pyrrha who quickly guarded assuming it was Dolan trying to overpower her only to see after she blocks the attack knocking whatever tried to attack her into the air. She notices that the object in the air was Dolan's sword, apparently while in the smokescreen he flipped his sword around and tossed it at her as if it were a spear to try and catch her off guard. What Pyrrha didn't see was when Dolan leaped into the air to catch his sword and commenced a vertical strike straight down on her shield with such force that she could feel the vibrations up her shoulder. This proved to be too much causing her defense to waver long enough for Dolan to deliver a palm strike with his free hand directly to Pyrrha's chest knocking her down on her back.

Jaune: Hey did any of you guys see that?

Nora: See what?

Jaune: I thought I just saw that guy's weapon glow!

Nora: I didn't see anything! Did you see it, Ren?

Ren simply shakes his head disappointing their leader who was hoping someone else saw it as well. What Jaune didn't know was that he was correct about Dolan's sword glowing. To be more precise what Dolan was doing was infusing his aura into his weapon to strengthen it causing his wooden sword to trade blows with Pyrrha's weapon. While for the most part, no one would be able to see his sword glowing unless Dolan raises it to a certain level of awareness or if someone had a high affinity to be able to perceive it.

Meanwhile, after being knocked on her back by Dolan's palm strike Pyrrha begins to get her barring's when she sees Dolan's foot on a direct path towards her head and quickly rolls out of the way of the attack before it can hit her and uses her momentum to hop back on her feet.

Pyrrha: You certainly have a lot of strength behind your attacks! My arm is still numb from your earlier strike!

Dolan: You mean from this?

Imminently his sword's wooden blade started to be enveloped by a glowing purple hue.

Pyrrha: Is your semblance the ability to make objects stronger?

Dolan: No, my dear this is not a semblance but a skill!

Pyrrha: A skill?

Dolan: Yes, you see for a huntsman or huntress you can't always expect to have a blacksmith close by to fix your weapon from wear and tear when on the road! This is the reason why this skill comes in handy, not only does it strengthen weapons, but you could also use it on other things in the event you find yourself without a weapon!

Dolan: Hell, one time I made a baguette strong enough to snap a table in half!

Pyrrha: That's...pretty impressive!

Hearing this everyone began whispering to themselves if they will learn how to do that as well. Yes, while many of the first-year students had unlocked their aura, awakened their semblances, or even perhaps had seen their fair share of battles they still needed to know how to better use their aura outside of their semblance. Luckily for them, this skill was well known among all huntsmen and huntresses before graduating so they won't need to worry about that. Though some students had other ideas on how to use this trick.

Nora: (So you could make a baguette into a weapon with that trick huh? That would come in handy for whenever a food fight breaks out that's for sure!)

Dolan: Though you're regarded as a great fighter Pyrrha what is currently separating you from me is what I have in my arsenal compared to yours. So, with that in mind shall we continue?

Without saying a word Pyrrha simply smiles before shifting her weapon into its riffle form and begins to fire at Dolan who simply responds by slapping the dust rounds to the side. He then follows by running his hand across the blade causing the purple glow on the sword to become more intense until Dolan swings the sword shooting a crescent shape shockwave straight toward Pyrrha who just barely managed to dodge out of the way of the wave of energy heading to her. She then maneuvers around to the perfect angle and tosses her shield at Dolan who simply tilts his head to the side to dodge it but knew Pyrrha wanted to use her shield to hit him in his blind spot. Just as the shield bounced off the tree to hit Dolan in the back of the head it suddenly hits something before falling to the ground.

Pyrrha: What?!

With a snap of his fingers, Dolan reveals what blocked the shield from hitting him.

Pyrrha: Is that?!

Dolan: You are correct I can use my aura to put up a-

Jaune: FORCE FIELD!!! I KNEW IT! IT REALLY CAN BE A FORCE FIELD!

Dolan & Pyrrha: ...

Dolan: Um...yeah what he said. I can make my aura into a force field.

He then proceeds to pick up Pyrrha's shield and tosses it up for her to catch.

Pyrrha: You're giving me back my shield?

Dolan: You'll need it for what I'm about to do next! You see I can do more than just make a barrier to protect me as you are about to see!

Holding out his arms into a cross above his head Dolan's whole body begins to be enveloped by his immense aura encircling his entire being forming a small dome. Realizing that he is charging up for something Pyrrha tries to stop Dolan by shooting at him but the barrier from earlier is still there blocking any of her attacks from reaching him.

Ozpin: Your attention students! I'd advise you all to brace yourselves for what comes next!

Ozpin: Glynda if you would!

Using her semblance Glynda lifts some of the ground to act as a cover for what she knew was coming.

Seeing this as well Pyrrha gets into a defensive posture for whatever it was Dolan was about to do.

Dolan: Some huntsman and huntresses can deliver a close-range pulse of aura into a Grimm causing them to explode. This we call an "Aura Pulse" however this next skill is a tier above that. Unlike the former which has an incredibly short range, this attack isn't just long-range it also can hit anything within a 360° range of the user. This is called...

Dolan: "Aura Burst"!

Dolan: (That's Checkmate.)

In an instant, the dome expands firing off an intense shockwave that produced so much force that it slammed Pyrrha against the wall of the Club Building causing the aura covering Pyrrha's body to shatter rendering her unable to continue. Seeing this Jaune bolts towards his partner with Nora and Ren following right behind him.

Jaune: Pyrrha are you okay!?

Pyrrha: Yeah, I'm fine!

Jaune then quickly turns his attention to Dolan who is slowly making his way towards them and judging by the expression on Jaune's face he is not at all happy with how he treated his partner.

Jaune: What's the big idea! You could have really hurt her! Why didn't you hold back?!

Dolan: That was me holding back. Besides, instead of lecturing me, you should be praising your teammate!

Jaune: For what?!

Dolan: For being able to hold her ground despite being at a clear disadvantage!

Jaune: But-

Pyrrha: He's right Jaune. I challenged him knowing full well I wasn't going to beat him. And now I am certain...

Jaune: Of what?

Pyrrha: That leaving my home and coming here to Beacon was the right choice. I want to be able to help better myself and in turn, be able to help others like those before me. I still have a lot to learn and while I may not have won, I'm glad to have at least tried my best.

Jaune: I-I guess that makes sense. But I still think he could have gone easier on you.

Dolan: Don't worry your girlfriend is going to be fine!

Pyrrha: Gi-Gi-Girlfriend! Me?!

Jaune: S-She isn't my girlfriend! Pyrrha is just my partner!

Pyrrha: Yup... just... partners. *sigh*

Dolan: (Gods Damn...even I felt that one, shit.)

Just then Ozpin arrives just in time to change the conversation to 'literally' anything else to get them off this topic.

Ozpin: Well then since Ms. Nikos's aura levels are in the red, we can say for certain that Dolan is the winner! Everyone, please give these two combatants a round of applause!

Everyone: *Applause*

Glynda: Well then, with that out of the way Dolan you can get started and clean up the mess you've made.

Dolan: Pardon?

Glynda: You heard me.

She points to the mess Dolan made from his last attack.

Dolan: Can't we let the first years clean that up? I mean I won after all!

Glynda: I believe as their 'teacher' you should lead by example when he makes a mess, he takes responsibility for it!

Dolan: ...Ok whatever you say, "Aunty Glynda"!

Everyone: AUNTY!!!?

Hearing what Dolan just said, all of the students go wide-eyed upon hearing that Dolan is Glynda's Nephew before turning to Glynda herself to hear her confirmation to which she simply blushes and turns her head to the side not wanting to comment. They then turn to Ozpin who is sipping his coffee before he turns his attention to his students.

Ozpin: He's adopted!

Everyone: Oooooooohh!

Ruby: Um excuse me, professor but does that mean Dolan works here like you and Professor Goodwitch?

Ozpin: As a matter of fact, yes Ms. Rose, Dolan does work here as both a member of the discipline committee as well as a teacher's assistant.

Ozpin: And in some circumstances like today, he will fill in as the instructor in the event of an emergency.

Dolan: I'll fill in for any class except history! Absolutely hate it!

Ozpin: He hates history.

Dolan: *sigh* Well then, if there's nothing else...

Dolan: Class Dismissed!
