Chapter 27 by Hellena Hellena

Back to Bed, then. Any lingering effects from the failure of your plan?

Does telling Ms. Devlin about it count?

Another four hours of sleep, and an hour to get ready (during which you barely remembered to slip your new necklace on), and you find yourself standing in front of Ms. Devlin's office again - this time, next to a nerdy little girl. You think. She looks a bit shy, wears a cute set of glasses, and her outfit is fairly conservative, but... The size of her chest and the way the top few buttons are undone suggest she's another bargainer. And if that suggestion wasn't clear enough, the way she's trying to hide a grin was. Maybe selling your soul isn't mutually exclusive with "nerdy", but it does lower the priority of that descriptor in your mind.

"Maya, Elizabeth, please come in," A voice calls from within her office.

You glance over towards your standing partner with a bit of surprise and concern. You hadn't been expecting this to be a group thing... Though, upon reflection, that shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise. Ms. Devlin wasn't exactly conservative in her lusts.

...Well, guess you were going to be doing a human woman today, then. If you were uncomfortable with that idea (and you were pretty sure you wouldn't be after a few minutes in the office), it wasn't as though you had a choice. It was this, or offer up a soul shard - and you were saving that option for if she, like, asked you to kill the Dean or something.

You glance at Elizabeth again as you walk into the office; you're going to see her naked in a moment, and you don't want to be studying her too closely when that time came. She's a bit shorter than you, and has medium-long black hair, cut neatly. She's lightly freckled, and, honestly... Kind of seems like the kind of girl who got picked on back in high school. Her outfit doesn't seem entirely suited to college; it looks more like something you'd wear to an office job, except... She's wearing it a bit sluttier than she should, in that case.

But, you don't have time to focus on that. You have important questions for Ms. Devlin before you lose the ability to think.

"Ms. Devlin, I have come to fulfill my bargain," You say formally, "But first, I'd like the answer to a couple of questions. I know you'll mess with my head, so I would prefer to ask upfront."

"Now, now, dear, didn't we agree?" Ms. Devlin responds with a cruel smile, "It's Mistress while we're in this office. Though I suppose I could also agree to 'Mistress Devlin' or 'Mistress Ashley'."

You glance over at Elizabeth, who was now giving you a curious gaze, before gritting your teeth. No point in fighting, and you were on a timetable.

"Mistress Devlin," You say, eyes closed, "I would like to know your intentions towards me. You already have great leverage over me, so I do not understand the purpose of this week. If you wanted to destroy me, you could, and if you wanted my service for longer, it would be trivial for you to demand."

"My, my, couldn't I just be generous with you?" Ms. Devlin asks with feigned innocence, "I had a reputation as a strict professor, but I was also reviewed quite well, I'll have you know."

You don't rise to her provocation, not wishing to end up tricked into bickering; instead, you just stare forward.

"Boring," She sighs, "Well if you must know, I need someone with a soul to act as my agent. The Soulless are great for all manner of tasks, but they're easily dealt with by certain rivals of mine, and are all too easy for certain church groups to identify. Your soul might end up blackened and filthy with time, but its mere existence will give you certain advantages that I will find useful."

"So, you see..." She continues, grinning at you, "By working with me, you help keep the university safe from all sorts of nasty little demons! Isn't that wonderful."

Well, it didn't sound horrible. You weren't entirely happy about handing the school to Mistress Devlin, but dealing with some unknown demon was probably worse. "The devil you know", right?

"...But why me?" You question, shaking your head, "I'm just a student. Aren't there professionals with more relevant skills?"

"The university is my territory," Mistress Devlin shrugs, "The security guards were incompetent, the sports teams have a collective IQ to match their scores, and poaching someone from afar would be boorish. Hence, my determination to make use of your potential."

A little tingle in your chest again, as you feel her implication settle in your chest again. She just wanted the souls of the rest of the student body, but she wanted you for your potential.

"...I see," You answer, moving on; your time here was limited, "I looked into that letter-writing idea of yours, by the way. It looks like all of the donors are pretty thoroughly on your side, so I chose to keep my letters to myself. It was a bit disappointing; I was honestly interested in making use of my education in a practical manner."

"Oh, that would have been amusing, if you hadn't checked first..." Mistress Devlin laughed, "I can only imagine the replies you'd have gotten. Well, don't worry, my little student, I can think of some people you can write more productively. Your continued ambition in the face of adversity reassures me that I was right to pick you."

Your chest swells with pride at her praise. Following her advice really had been a good idea. And it had even gotten you some more work; who was she going to ask you to write, you wonder?

...Mmm, wait, no, you were writing her to get OUT of work, right? But why? You were never a lazy student.

"I defeated your evil plan, by the way," You continue, determined to get through all of the important points while you were still sane.

"Oh, have you, now?" Mistress Devlin asked, amused, "Now what evil plan would that be, and how did you foil it?"

"I told Taylor everything," You replied, "I'm not going to keep any pointless secrets from her, and I'm not going to be uncomfortable with her reactions. You had me share a frankly sexual story with her in hopes that I'd be scared off by her sudden interest in me - but I understand it was just a story. It's not going to shake my trust in my best friend."

...Mistress Devlin's near-hysterical laughter in response wasn't really an encouraging reaction. But wait, that's what you were going for, right? To keep Mistress amused? Why else would you tell her about your personal life?

"Wait, you and Taylor aren't dating?" Elizabeth asks you while Mistress is busy.

"No, she's my best friend," You reply, shaking your head, "I'm straight."

"...You are?" Elizabeth replies, seeming confused.

You're about to reply, but Mistress interrupts you, as she gets over her laughing fit.

"Yes, yes, my little student, you've completely foiled my wickedness," Mistress says, still giggling a bit, "Excellent work seeing through my plot, and a very good job telling me all about it. I'll certainly have to reward you for that later. But first, the matter of your obligation."

"You want me to lay with Elizabeth today, then?" You nod, seeing where this is going.

...You're rewarded with more laughter, and a searching look from Elizabeth... Not that she seemed disinterested. Apparently that wasn't the deal for today?

"Well, sleeping with your best friend's soon-to-be girlfriend would certainly be a fun little sin for us both..." Mistress replied, "But no, she's part of today's boring obligation. Merely introduce Elizabeth to Taylor, and talk Taylor into going on a date with her. It needn't be a serious date; just make sure she's willing to give Elizabeth a chance."

The mention of Taylor helps lift a bit of the fog from your mind... Shit, you don't know how bad your mind's working right now, but you're pretty sure you're falling a lot faster than you did last time. This might be worth burning a part of your soul for - you needed to work out the danger, fast.

"I understood Taylor was to be kept out of this," You reply firmly, "Asking me to talk to her is one thing, but sending someone who sold their soul to you is treading perilously close to the boundary."

"Did we, now?" Mistress Devlin taps her chin thoughtfully, "I believe I was to avoid touching or talking to her, and that she not eat me out. I don't believe we mentioned third parties, or else most of the school would soon be off limits. Not a very stimulating educational environment, I have to say."

"But no," Mistress Devlin shakes her head, turning her attention back to you, "Elizabeth's in full possession of her soul, the clever little thing. She asked to try it out before she committed to anything, and I obliged."

You glance at Elizabeth's chest, who blushes shyly in response. Maybe that's why she hadn't gotten the full makeover?

...Hm, wait, this could actually be a good opportunity, couldn't it? Introduce Elizabeth and Taylor, talk Elizabeth out of selling her soul, suddenly they're four instead of three.

"I don't understand..." You say, turning your focus back to a key point while you can still think, "What do you get out of this? Shouldn't my obligations benefit you?"

Mistress just sighs, and rolls her eyes.

"I'm still a professor, and have an obligation to my students to ensure a healthy learning environment," Mistress said, "I'm not just an 'eeeevil' demoness, you know. Elizabeth here was worried she was too unattractive to find a girlfriend, and wanted my help; you told me yesterday you were looking for a girlfriend for your best friend. It's a problem if my students don't get enough sex to focus on school, and this was an opportunity to nip that problem in the bud. Does any of this truly sound strange to you?"

You think the problem through in your head, and it checks out. Mistress was a succubus, and was promoting a very lust-filled environment - not to mention how her entire class was focusing on lust. Taylor and Elizabeth not having partners would be an obstacle to that, unless she could get them, like, masturbating in the hallways or something. At this rate, they'd probably fail. The monogamy might still be an issue, but at least this way they'd have a chance to pass.

...Yeah, this sounded pretty win-win to you. You'd been looking for a girlfriend for Taylor for years, and Elizabeth was pretty attractive. If you could talk her out of selling her soul, she'd be a perfect addition to your group, it would be good for their grades, and Mistress would advance her goal of spreading lust and Satanism to every corner of the school. Nobody would lose out from this.

"It makes perfect sense," You reply, "I'll introduce them as soon as we're done here, then."

"Mmm, better to wait for an hour for the lust-haze to clear, dear," Mistress replied, "But first, your fun obligation. Ah, wait... Elizabeth, Maya and I are about to have sex. Would you like to stay for this part, or wait in the hall?"

Does she stay, or does she go?
