Chapter 21 by fishcrem
Dodge or Parry?
Dodge
Katarina took a huge step back just as the demon's tail almost struck her. Luckily, the tail wasn't quite long enough after her movement and she neatly dodged what may have been a lot of demon venom. She was glad the imp told her about them but it didn't make much of a difference to her approach as she wasn't about to let the demon's hit her in the first place, tail or not.
Katarina lunged, taking the initiative to counter attack after the demon had missed her. Her spear looked like it was about to find its target, but passed through the air harmlessly as the demon seemed to disappear. Katarina thought she saw a flash of black move across her vision and past her into the bakery but she wasn't really sure what happened.
"CLOSE YOUR EYES!"
She wasn't really sure why but instinctively closed her eyes, trusting Eobard for the moment. There must have been a flash of brilliant light as all she saw was bright orange that indicated that light was making it through her eyelids.
When she opened her eyes again, it was still dark.
"Light the lamps! Quick! They don't stay down for very long."
Hurriedly and still disorientated, Katarina managed to light the two lamps in the bakery, relying more her memory of the layout than her actual vision.
The demon lay on the floor in the middle, hands clawing at its face still. Its skin, which had changed from the pale grey to an angry red now seemed to be sucking in the light of the lamps it was clearly in much agony.
"Shadow demons, extremely dangerous foes at night time, able to sink into the shadows. Light will take them down easy enough though. You're lucky I still had a flash scroll that I saved from my adventuring days girl, stored it in my lute," He flashed her a grin. "Go on, finish him off, best you stab it the chest."
Still amazed at the bard's vast knowledge she walked up to the demon who was still writhing on the floor. It was much less intimidating now, she rammed her spear into its chest and she felt the satisfying thunk of the blade sinking into the wooden floors underneath.
This time, the demon burst into blackness, similar to the other demons but vanishing much faster.
"Nasty things those, not very intelligent mind you but its venom is very hallucinogenic. Some people get stung once and are addicted for life, not that they normally live very long." Eobard walked out from behind the counter and was straightening his clothes, tucking his shirt into his trousers. "I've just locked Gilly up in her room for tonight, her parents should be able to get her out tomorrow morning. She's sleeping now but will still... follow anyone with a cock while shes still ****."
Katarina nodded, not really wanting to broach the subject of him having sex with her best friend. "Will there be more of these shadow demons?"
"Unlikely, they are quite rare and I doubt there will be another, especially attacking a small village like this. I'm guessing you want to head to your home now?"
Will you?
