Do I really have a choice?

"Nope, you are completely awake... in a way" John is stunned, the fairy sees this and says, "So... you should probably take a seat".

John simply nods before dropping down to the dirt before leaning against the towering mushroom that looms over the duo before asking, "So what happened to me on Earth? Did I just randomly disappear? What about my family?!".

"Woah, woah, woah, slow down and take a breath" The fairy quickly responds.

John does as asked and begins to slow down, focusing on his breathing, so he doesn't hyperventilate. As he seems to calm down, the fairy continues, "Okay, so first, everything is totally fine... well, as fine as they can be anyway. Secondly, you're here, but not all of you... your mind is here but... your body isn't".

John gives a confused look as the fairy continues, "See, currently, your body is on auto pilot, doing everything you would routinely, like uhh, sleeping, eating, bathing, bathroom needs, work and heck even more, primal urges, so to speak".

John turns his head in embarrassment before asking, "So if my brain is, here, how is my body on auto pilot? Doesn't it need my brain?".

The fairy chuckles, "You humans really don't know anything huh?".

John can't even retort before the fairy continues, "The brain isn't like you would think. Your brain isn't just yours, it's like an omniversal nexus point for every different conceivable version of you within the multiverse".

John is back to being confused as the fairy once again continues, "Okay, let me give you an example. Whenever you get a random headache, that isn't just a headache. An alternate version of you has actually suffered an injury to the head albeit a punch, fall or something more, the same goes for random pains around your body. Another example, whenever you get a sudden boost of energy at early morn, that's because another version of you is currently being active or even something random like... arousal. That just means an alternate version of you is getting it on, all of those feelings, emotions, everything. It's not just you either. It happens to literally an infinite amount of you every single second, so everything you know and do is backed up by your subconscious. It almost acts like a fail-safe is this sort of thing were to occur which for humans, is almost never".

John begins to understand, or at least he thinks so anyway, so after taking in all that information he asks, "Wait... so... is it possible for me to talk to another version of... me?".

The fairy sucks in some air through her teeth before answering, "Not exactly from what we've learned. When the first men walked on our world, they were too dumb to realise anything. As man evolved, they were becoming more and more intelligent and were managing to connect to alternate versions of themselves. However the brain can't sustain that type of connection and because of that... the two that connected would internally implode, along with their omniversal counterparts which in turn killed an entire line of people. So, the brain began evolving so people could no longer communicate with themselves and accidentally wipe out an entire future ancestral line in the process".

John is shocked which is the natural reaction to learning that if his ancestor was curious enough, he could've wiped out an infinite amount of not only themself but also wiped him out too.

His mind then harkens back to what the fairy said early, "Hold on... you said that I was second human here... ever?".

"That I did! There hasn't been a human for thousands of years. The first was a man ho called himself Abek Shomel-Hatu. According to our historians, he was reported to be some sort of very religious person, preaching about being some sort of sacrificial lamb for some Earth god. He eventually killed himself in some sort of ritual after a few months and there hasn't been a human since".

John's eyes are open in surprise, "Holy shit".

"Yeah, pretty crazy right? Anyway, I am so excited to be your guide for this wonderful world!" The fairy says giddily.
