Chapter 50 by keron keron

What's next?

Ditch your phone

You quickly teleport back to the mansion and ditch your phone on the bed, before going back to the NSA. Now that you've seen the inside of the room, you can easily access it with your teleportation powers. The guards are just finishing their search and one of them is reporting back to the woman in command. She's pretty young for someone in charge and she actually looks kind of pretty. She's tall and thin, with a sharp chin and facial features. Her brown hair is tied in a bun and her long legs look great even in her uniform.

"Commander Teller. There are no signs of any unauthorized electronic devices, but there's something you need to see," the guard holds up a tablet to show her something.

The woman, Commander Teller, narrows her eyes and looks confused at what she's being presented with. "It's says there are 78 people signed in to this room, but there are 79 heat signatures. How is that possible?" she asks.

You start to panic again. You hadn't imagined that you could still be spotted while you're invisible. Another guard brings out some device with a lens and you wait to see what it is. When he points it at the people in the room, you realize it's some kind of thermal camera. You're about to be caught, so you quickly freeze time so that you can formulate a plan. You decide to teleport to behind where the guard with the camera is standing and let time resume. As expected, he sweeps the room and after doing a count, doesn't find the 79th heat signature: you.

"Weird. Could it be a malfunction?" Commander Teller asks out loud. The guards shrug, unable to explain the abnormally. You can see her ID badge up close now and her name is Sidney Teller. She smells faintly of chlorine. There must be a swimming pool somewhere in the facilities and she had just come from there. Hearing no response, she thinks about the situation for a while before issuing her next command.

"Empty out the room and rescreen everyone. If it's still the same, then it must be a malfunction. Report back to me on the results. I'll be in my office," she says. Then she walks towards a office in the back with a mirror facing the room. You follow behind her into the office and realize it's a one-way mirror that allows her to monitor the activity in the room. The office is spartan and clean, and the only items are her chair, a desk and a computer. There are not even chairs for someone else to sit down. After she slams the door shut, she sits down behind her desk and you lean against the wall, pondering your next move as you study her.

What's your plan?
