Diner

The walk into town only served to amplify Ethan’s hunger.

Trying to recall the menu, on the way, Ethan wonders if they’ve changed it at all in the last five years. His stomach hopes not, but his brain is undecided.

On getting to the diner, he walks in, a few patrons turning to look at him. Their stares don’t last quite as long as the other day, but Ethan feels them linger as he takes a seat.

A moment later, a lady old enough to be his grandma comes up to him, dropping off a menu. “Coffee?”

“Please.” Ethan wasn't much of a coffee guy, mostly taking her up on the offer because it seemed like the thing to drink in a place like this.

As she poured his coffee, Ethan looked around, taking in the area. The place was just like he remembered it, feeling like he was sitting in a 50’s milkshake bar. Everything was clean and looked fairly new, but Ethan knew most of it was genuine vintage, albeit restored. Looking at the counter, Ethan remembers sitting at it with Aaron, Bobby, Charlie and…

Ethan frowns.

He’d been having trouble recalling the name of his last groupmate. ‘Timmy? No. Jimmy? No.’ Ethan knew he knew it. He’d hung out with the kid for something like ten summers straight after all. Of the whole group he was just the most… Background. Never in the spotlight, never causing drama.

What the fuck was his name.

“City-boy!”

Well that wasn't it.

Looking up, Ethan glances up, a familiar tanned face looking down at him. “Mind if I join ya?”
