“Alright, I guess I start at the beginning,” you say carefully, “We have been friends for a long time. Since elementary school. And I quickly developed a huge crush on her. I mean, look at her. How could I not.”

“I’m not going to answer this,” Marvin says serious, “that’s a deadly trick question for an already taken man.”

“Smart guy,” Emma says and nudges Marvin’s shoulder with her head, “you may continue!”

“I never was brave enough to tell her my feelings, since I was still a child,” you continue and take a checking look at Jenny who still watches you like a falcon, “but then one fateful day, the day her mother left her and her dad, I heard somebody crying in the gyms locker rooms after school. I thought I could help and to my surprise I found her. she wanted me to go, but for reasons I never understood, I refused and sat down next to her. I took her in my arms and comforted her as best as I could. One thing has led to another and soon we were kissing. Later dating and even more later … other things. I still love her like back then and I still try to understand how it was possible for me to have so much luck. And … sometimes I even felt guilty that the probably worst day in her life was also one of my happiest. But since that day, I never wanted to be with somebody else again.”

“Well saved,” Jenny says pleased and kisses you on the cheek before taking your hand in hers, “you know, Max, when my mother couldn’t take it with me anymore and left, I lost all hope of ever living a normal life. When my own mother couldn’t live with me, how could a person without family bands do so. But you were always there. Gave me hope and caring. And … well, I kind of felt guilty too. My father, Acaria and Eric told me several times to end this relationship. I put you constantly in danger. Not only by me, but also by our enemies. I … have no idea what I would do without you.”

“That’s so sweet,” Emma says happy and leans on her partner, “I want to be young again. You not?”

“No, thanks,” Marvin answers and shakes his head, “I didn’t like my childhood. You know my parents were not exactly supporting.”

“Sorry honey,” Emma says a little sad, “I didn’t want to bring that up again.”

“It’s alright … I probably shouldn’t have mentioned it,” Marvin says uncomfortable, “But now that we have opened this topic, Jenny, have you already thought about how to deal with Vincent? He will not be happy to meet your partner. You know what he thinks about humans.”

“Wait a moment,” you interrupt, „who is Vincent and why is he against humans.”

“Vincent is a kind of security chief in the pack and also Eric’s right-hand man,” Jenny explains bitter, “malicious tongues say he is rather his shadow. He has a bad history with humans. Especially with his family. However, he has no authority and Acaria already approved your presence. In fact, she even invited you and her word is law. I will just be honest with Vincent and if he tries to lecture me I can still tell him to go to hell.”

“Seems to be an interesting meeting,” you mumble and take a few sips from your drink.

The rest of the meal is just empty chatting until Marvin informs you, that you probably should go back to your cars now. It is still a longer drive to the meeting. You all say goodbye to each other, Jenny gets a hug from Emma and soon you, your girlfriend and your fairies are back in the car and on the road. You must admit, this was interesting. Talking with Emma and Marvin gave you a deeper understanding in the everyday life of werewolves. And it made Jenny obviously happy. This alone was already worth it.
