Chapter 14 by Zebra Zebra

Will you go with Oolok to get his sword, or go with Franz to get equipment.

Debts past and present

It had taken most of the morning, for Franz to finished his talk with the watch Captain. While you had sat on the bench outside the Captains office, listening to the rumbling voice telling the same story he had told you Arlen and Oolok. It was to the big humans credit that the Captain only made him tell it a dozen times, as the older watchman smoked his pipe and asked questions now and then. “And that's it... you just went home.”

“What else could I do, the house was warded and I wanted to calm down before talking to anyone in authority. For obvious reasons, they didn't speak of what those reasons were but you understand why that was.

“You claim this... Elf wizard had summonsed a infernal, here in the city.” The Captain asked at lasted, he sounded like he didn't much believe that. “Because if that's the case I'm going to have to alert...”

“I only know that it smelled strongly of sulfur, and that it vanished in a cloud of flame when he dismissed it.” Franz snorted already knowing where this was headed, and so played along with what the watch Captain wanted. “I am not a expert on magic, certainly not about infernal creatures. Perhaps it was all an illusion... at any rate Jerome, Oolok and I will be leaving the city.”

“Is that so?” The watch Captain grunted, suddenly sounding extremely pleased as he dumped his pipe bowl out. “Well then... no point getting the church involved in a matter of street magic. No I think we can just write this off, as a drunken tough who knifed a fine watchman. Gotta say tho' I'm gunna miss that cookin' of yours, bet Arlen is goin' miss it as well... among other things.”

“Arlen makes friends easily...” Franz observed making the watch Captain loudly burst out laughing, even as he gestured for the tall human to leave.

“Hahah... now thats quite tha understatement I'd say. Alright get out of my office, oh and I'll sent a message just as soon as I find a ship that'll take ya sorry lot.”

Franz rose without another words, strolling out he collected you before leaving. The two of you walking down the streets in silence, as he lead you into the city markets. Slowly you past booths of street vendors frantically hocking their wares, your stunned at all the things for sale on these streets. That tall black haired human guides you through the crowds, past shops and booth alike as he knows just where he wants to go. At last he shows you into a place called, Kildarns armory looking around your shocked at all the suits of armor lining the wall. Slowly Franz walks to the back where a fat one eyed human stands glaring coldly at him. “What the fuck do you want?”

“Kildarn... long time yer looking fat.” Franz grunted, as the other human glares up at him with that single light brown eye. Kildarn didn't answer that, he just stood there starring hard at Franz like he wanted to boil him in oil.

“What... do... you... want?” The burly one eyed human snarled slowly, as Franz just stood there looking down at him coolly.

“Armor.” The big man answered simply, as Kildarn's eye bulged out of his head while his mouth flopped open. Jaw working silently up and down for a long moment, before he at last found his voice.

“ARMOR? You got to be fuckin' kidding me... what the fuck would need with armor?”

“Not for me... for my friend here.” Franz grunted gesturing to you, as Kildarn looked over at you in surprise as if he hadn't noticed you before. The burly human almost falling off his stool, as he had been so focused in Franz he hadn't seen you at all.

“And Elf... you want armor for a pantywaist Elf!” Kildarn spat on the floor, jumping to his feet and leaning forwards over the counter glaring at you now. “Elfin armor is... fuckin' expensive.”

“You owe me...” Franz replied flatly, as the fat humans one eye darted back up to him. That big round face going very red, and the veins in his forehead bulged.

“Owe you? I owe you... for what?” Kildarn choked, looking like he was just about ready to throw a punch at Franz's face.

“Do you really want me to talk about that?” Franz asked in a soft tone, that instantly shut the shouting Kildarn up.

“Fuck it... fine... I got one suit of Elf chain-mail, might be a bit big for him. But its all I got... you can take it or leave it. I don't give a shit. But this is it... after this we are even and if I ever see yer ugly face in my shop again. I'm gunna go ta church.”

“Always a pleasure talking to a old friend.” Franz observed as the one eyed shopkeeper, pulled out a silvery suit of gleaming chain-mail. Franz looked it over carefully, before shoving it into a shoulder bag. And then to two of you quickly left, even as you felt the shopkeeper glaring daggers at your back.

“He's a friend of yours?” You asked following along behind Franz quickly, the tall man taking long strides that made him hard to keep up with.

“He was one of the best.” The Franz answered sadly, storming off through the crowd as you struggled to keep up.

“But he seems like he hates you.” You point out as Franz stopped looking back at you for a moment, the tall black hair human looking intensely sad.

“He has plenty of reasons to hate me... I ate his wife. And I'm the one who blinded him in that eye.” Franz confessed looked at you with great remorse on his face, as you just stood there starring at him in horror. “now lets go get you some weapons.” Franz snorted turned away, farther down the way you follow him into a pawnshop, its not where you thought that you would be going. The thin hatchet faced human behind the counter looking startled, as the two of you enter his small dingy shop.

“Franz.” This man chokes like he couldn't believe who he is seeing, like the tall man is a ghost from his past. “I didn't know... you were back in the... in the city.”

“Hey Landry... I need some Elfin weapons... that magical long sword we picked up in the great forest, and that spear we found in the ruins of that city can't recall the name. I know you've still got them, never thought I'd care to claim them. But my friend here needs them.” Franz gestured to you, as Landry looks over at you, almost like he is feeling sorry for you. “I'll get them for you at once...” The slender human hurried into the back, slowly dragging out a dust wooden crate. “I boxed all those old things up years ago.” You watch as Franz unbox's the loot, from years past as Landry leans over close.

"Watch yourself around him... there are things you might not know."

Looking to board ship...
