‘As if out of spite, the patient woke up an hour after the call. I called the representative back (Takeba I think her name was) to update them on his status. I asked if she wanted to speak with him but she immediately refused. The woman was very insistent that I not tell him anything but to hold onto him until they arrived. I can’t just arbitrarily keep him here, especially if he insists on leaving. I told her as much; that’s when she offered to add a new wing to the hospital. I suppose there’s no harm in keeping him here overnight, we can spare a bed. I’ll have a nurse run some bogus physical and tell him we need to keep him overnight for observation before he can be released. I’ll have Ami do it. Patients under her care seem to never want to want to leave for some reason. I wasn’t expecting her to find anything, so I was surprised when I learned that the patient had gained 2 kilograms since he was admitted and his muscle tone had noticeably improved. Could this be the result of the mutation? I don’t know and I don’t want to know. This whole thing scares the hell out of me. Come tomorrow, he won’t be my problem anymore.’
