Chapter 7 by Ferisia Ferisia

The Next Day

Day - 2

The morning has barely risen when someone walks into the store. The bell above the door rings. Three large, scarred men enter. The leader, a tall man with a slick moustache, takes his time to look around. Parsing all the goods and wares he could sell to make a profit. Before long, his eyes slowly drag down your body, lingering on the way your cloak clings to your breasts.

He leans over the counter, close enough that you can smell leather, and other unsavoury things.

“There’s a very nice establishment here, Miss…”

“Yera,” you reply.

“Yes. Very charming, and quite with the times too, given the plethora of items on display.”

“I’d agree.”

“Indeed, I have no doubt you would. And certainly, you’d find it a shame, if such things were… ruined, wouldn’t you?”

His implication is clear, and his voice smooth as silk. Despite the meaning undercutting his voice, he maintains a friendly demanour, and lets a smile form. The other two men move casually through the shop, but make their way to the counter, as if to let their presence simmer.

“Let’s work together, Miss Yera. We’re not a inherently unfair people. If you can pay us, let’s say, thirty Lentimes, we’ll make sure certain accidents don’t happen to your store, how’s that?”

You’re out of luck. You’d spent all the money to open up your store, and whatever else you have is just for day to day living.

“No need to stress it over, Miss Yena.” He reaches out and pushes open the front of your cloak. “We’ll be back in five days to re-negotiate terms. I understand that businesses such as yours require more than sufficient time to develop…”

With that, he nods and leaves the establishment, alongside his two companions.

What's next?
