And now...
Dawn moves to assist
Without waiting for an answer, Dawn was off to assist what members of the caravan she could before they departed. The first person she came across was a woman who seemed to be rather worse-for-wear. Bruises covered her exposed skin, and she moved with a gait that seemed as though her muscles protested every motion. Still, as one of the more physically able of the troupe she carried on loading items and following the instructions of others as best she could.
Dawn approached the other woman as she settled down for a quick rest. "Excuse me." Dawn stated, "I'm a healer of sorts and if you'll permit I'd like to see if I can help with your injuries."
The other woman said nothing but nodded and Dawn gave a sad smile as she examined her. The woman looked like she'd been through the wringer, and Dawn had to fight to keep her face neutral. "I'm Dawn by the way." she introduced herself as she made her initial exam. A few quick incantations and a number of her bruises began healing faster, while testing with her fingers indicated the woman had at least a few cracked ribs. Another spell later and it seemed the other woman was breathing a little easier.
"I'm on my way to Southmarch, and I was hoping you might be able to tell me anything recent about the area." The other woman looked at her flatly and opened her mouth to which Dawn could see the woman's tongue was missing.
"Filthy Goblin bastards." Dawn muttered before forcing a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry, but fixing that's a fair ways beyond my abilities."
The other woman gave her a look that said No Shit.
Dawn grimaced and focused her attention back on injuries she could do something about. "Do you know if anyone else here might know something about Southmarch?"
The unknown woman indicated a young faun girl nearby and Dawn thanked her. "Is there anything else I might be able to help you with?" The woman shook her head no and Dawn made a polite goodbye before moving towards the faun.
"Hello there." she said as she came upon the faun, "My name's Dawn. I'm something of a healer and I might be able to help you with some of your injuries if you'd like."
The faun beamed at Dawn as she replied "Hi Dawn, that's such a pretty name, which fits you 'cause you're a pretty girl. I'm Fenwa, pleased to meet you!"
Fenwa held out her arms and Dawn could see that her wrists and ankles were still encased in shackles. The chains had been broken, but the young faun still had to carry them around. Dawn resisted frowning at the knowledge that she wasn't much of a lockpick; the young girl would have to endure at least until she found someone who could either break the manacles, which was unlikely, or a locksmith. Underneath the shackles, her skin was bruised and sores were sporadic. It was apparent that she'd been struggling against them for some time. From what Dawn could tell the rest of her was unharmed, so her treatment shouldn't be too extensive. That was good because with every passing moment the caravan grew closer to leaving.
The two settled down and Dawn began her incantations. "Tell me about yourself Fenwa." Dawn made conversation, "where are you from?"
"Oh!" The faun exclaimed, "I'm from Southmarch originally, my mate and I heard about a biomancer someways away and we left to see if he could help us conceive 'cause we'd been having some trouble. On our way there those goblin guys ambushed us and chained me up. My mate..." her face went sullen and she looked away, "h-he didn't make it."
"Fithy Goblin bastards." Dawn muttered as she addressed the faun's ankles. "Is the caravan going to Southmarch?"
"I-I don't know." Fenwa answered honestly as far as Dawn could tell. "I don't know where the caravan is going now. I-I just want to go home, but I don't feel safe traveling alone."
Dawn finished with her spells and the faun's wrists and ankles were already beginning to look better. "Well I'm headed to Southmarch, if you want you could travel with me. My mother disappeared from there a short time ago, I'm headed to investigate."
Fenwa looked conflicted, but said nothing. Dawn stayed with her a moment longer before rising to her feet. "I'm going to try and attend to a few more people before the caravan leaves. If you decide that you want to come south with me, come find me. I won't leave until the caravan's departed."
The faun only nodded, and Dawn excused herself before seeing if there was anyone else who needed her attention. In no time at all she stumbled upon a young boy who was fidgeting about and seemed somewhat lost about the caravan.
"Well hello." Dawn said a little surprised but warmly.
The boy stared at her for a moment, most likely startled before replying "Hi." With a little wave.
"I'm Dawn, a healer of sorts; are you injured?"
He shook his head "No."
"Could I ask you a few questions?" Dawn asked politely.
"No sorry, I-I have to go." The boy answered without looking at her and quickly scurried off.
Dawn stood stunned for a second before letting out a sigh. She was about to try and find another person, but it seemed like the caravan was about ready to depart. The young healer placed her hands on her hips and let out an annoyed huff before turning back to the small group she'd left earlier.
"Well the caravan looks like it's leaving. I'm headed to Southmarch, and if any of you are going that way it would probably be best if we traveled together. If not, it was nice to meet you all, and I wish you a safe journey to wherever it is you're going."
And what was the group doing?
