Chapter 4 by neoas neoas

What's next?

David returns to the car...But there's something different about him

Liz waited in the car with Carly and Natalie for a good ten minutes before she finally saw the door open again and David walk out of the house. He walked to the car and leaned his head through the open window next to Liz.

"The house is all safe, Luv. No ghosts in sight." He said with a laugh. But it wasn't the kind of laugh David normally had at one of his own jokes. It was the type of chuckle that usually meant something along the lines of I know something that you don't. That wasn't the only thing that was off though. It could have been just Liz, but David's voice sounded a bit different too. It sounded like his accent was off. It sounded like there was a minor drawl on some of his words, but it could have just been from the tiny bit of beer Liz had borrowed from Carly while waiting for David.

"So, Let's get inside then. I need to stretch my legs!" Carly said, getting out of the car and going onto the ground to do a split. Boy, when she was drunk, she really didn't care what people thought of her. Natalie came out of the car too. It looked like she had at least sobered up a bit.

"What are we waiting for? Let's get inside." She said, heading up the stairs. Carly followed her lazily, while Liz stayed behind with David.

"What's wrong luv?" David asked. Instead of being polite when he looked at her, now he was just looking at her chest, which was something David had never done before. Once he saw that she noticed, he stopped and looked at her eyes instead. There was something weird about the way he looked at her.

"Are you alright? You're acting strange all of a sudden." Liz said. David just shrugged.

"I don't know what you're talkin' about." He said. That nailed it. there was definitely some kind of accent in his words, but for all Liz knew it could just be one of David's jokes.

"Come on, Lizzie...Let's just go inside with the others." David said, putting his arm around Liz's shoulders. Liz moved away from him and looked at him questioningly.

"You never called me 'Lizzie' before." She said. It wasn't that she didn't like nicknames, but the way he said it made it sound like he was trying to talk to someone else.

"Sorry, I thought you'd like the new name. Maybe you'll like it by the end of the night. Come on, let's get out of the cold." David said, holding the door open for her. As she walked past him, Liz saw that there was a look in his eyes that she had never noticed before. A look that made it seem like he wasn't even David. For that moment, Liz could have sworn he was someone else entirely.

***

As Liz and David walked into the house, the three other demons watched from above as the tourists made themselves comfortable in the house. When the door had first been opened earlier, Billy had gotten so startled he had jumped right inside of the guy who entered the room. Before anyone could protest he was the first one to get a body.

Since Billy was also a demon he could still see and hear the others so they formulated a plan on what to do next. Billy had all of "David's" memories and immediately got the hang of talking in his body's accent. More or less. He still has his southern drawl on some words, but that wasn't a very big deal. The main problem was that some of the one's he was with had been drinking and the demons didn't want their first taste of life in over twenty years to be a hangover. Then again, life was still life.

As 'David' brought the others into the house, the demons decided how to move forward.
