Daniel’s Worries and Enter the Ravers

As Daniel heard Zack’s car pull out of the driveway he turned to Rick, “Thanks for covering, I don't want the kids first day of senior year ruined over something that could be nothing.” Rick shrugged, “No sense in worrying the kids when you don’t know what happened right?” Daniel nodded, “All I know is that someone tried to break into Bishop Tech. They avoided all of the external cameras, but set off the alarms when they attempted to breach the magnetically sealed doors. I still think it was just someone looking to steal some tech to sell for a quick buck, it’s not like the cameras are invisible so someone could easily avoid them, I mainly installed them as a deterrent, the real security is on the doors and inside the building.”

Rick listened to Daniel’s story, apparently he had received a call very early this morning informing him that the alarms at his office had been tripped. The burglar couldn’t get past the magnetically sealed doors so nothing had been stolen. Daniel had called Rick soon after getting back home from inspecting the office and filing a police report. Rick scratched his beard thoughtfully, “While you may be right the perp being able to so easily avoid the cameras concerns me. It hints that they are not a small-time crook and that they have plenty of experience getting around security, at least basic security like cameras. This could have been more the perp testing your security than an actual burglary attempt. Are you sure there isn’t something you are working on that would prompt this?”

Daniel shook his head, “Nothing that should be known outside of my employees and I trust them all implicitly, so if you are thinking of suggesting I have a mole in my office don’t.” Rick raised his hands in a placating gesture, “Calm down Danny, it was either that or you were hacked without any of your employees or you noticing. There are plenty of easier marks for a crook to hit, so why your office?” Daniel shook his head as he placed it in his hands, “I don’t know, maybe the crook wants to test themselves?” Rick laughed, “That only happens in the movies Danny boy! So what do you want from me? You know I can’t drop my duties at Ravers Enterprise for this, as much as I want to help.”

Daniel smiled, “You know I would never ask you to risk your livelihood for me Rick. I can guess what my brother hired you for, I just want to ask you to keep your ears to the ground. I know you like to cruise the seedier parts of town, if you hear anything about me or my building let me know, that’s all I am asking.” Rick ran his hand over his head, “Alright Danny, but I wouldn’t expect much. If something happens, or you think of anything that might help give me a heads up.” Daniel nodded as the two men stood up and shook hands, “Thanks Rick.” Rick laughed, “What are friends for if you can’t come to them to ask for help. I should get going before I am late to work, I’ll call you later.” Rick gave Monica a hug, “Keep him out of trouble for me yeah?” Monica smirked, “Someone has to, take care of yourself Ricky.” Rick Jordan bid the Bishops farewell before exiting the house to make his way to Ravers Enterprises.

The young woman checked herself over in the mirror one last time, she wanted to make sure she looked perfect for her first day of senior year. Looking back at her was a stunning vision of teenage femininity. She had long, slightly wavy dark brown hair, electric blue eyes that her family was known for a large bust and a toned ass from all of her years of cheerleading. She was Heather Ravers, the “Queen Bee,” of Azure Rocks High, which annoyed several of her peers, but Heather didn’t let that bother her. She was a Ravers, a member of one of the wealthiest families in Azure Rocks, not that she used her family's money to gain popularity. No, she had gained her popularity through her own hard work on the cheerleading squad, which she was now the captain of. Though she could be bossy at times, she was by no means a bully. She was just a young woman who knew what she wanted and how to get it. Heather didn’t stand for bullies and did her best to prevent such acts, especially when it came to her estranged cousin Zack Bishop.

Heather smiled at her reflection, satisfied that she looked perfect before heading to the kitchen to grab a quick breakfast. As she expected she found a plate of eggs and sausage waiting for her when she entered the kitchen, as well as her father Robert Ravers. Robert was a handsome man with his short dark brown hair and the Ravers electric blue eyes. He was known around town as a playboy, a fact he took some pride in. Despite his wealth and power Robert didn’t lord it over others, which made him rather popular with the residents of Azure Rocks, that and all the money he donates to make the town better. Robert looked up from the morning paper, Heather still had no idea why her father insisted on reading it when he could find the same information online. Heather smiled at her father as she sat down, “Morning Daddy!” Robert smiled at his daughter, doing his best not to stare at the cleavage Heather’s top showed.

Robert had long since given up trying to ignore the fact that his daughter was hot, but he still did his best not to ogle her, a feat that seemed to become harder and harder, “Morning Pumpkin, running a little late aren’t you? Don’t you need to pick up Ashley?” Heather shook her head as she took a bite of sausage, “She asked Zachary to pick her up today, she wants to rekindle the close friendship they had when they were younger before we all head off to college.” Robert nodded, “And what about you and Zachary?” Heather looked at her father in confusion, “What do you mean Daddy?” Robert sighed as he folded his paper, “I mean have you gotten to know Zachary? I know you have wanted to change the distance between our families, but I doubt that is something that will happen overnight, especially when it comes to your Uncle Daniel.”

Heather frowned, “You must have really screwed up to make him hate you so much.” Robert smiled in self-deprecation, “You have no idea Pumpkin, it is not something I am proud of and I wish I could apologize to Daniel, but even our shared friends can’t get him to talk with me. Still, my brother’s and my problems shouldn’t affect you having a relationship with Zachary, you are cousins and if it weren’t for me you two would be much closer.” Heather looked at her father sympathetically, she knew he had been longing to rekindle his relationship with his estranged brother for some time now, she thought it had something to do with her moving out for college after senior year. Heather finished her breakfast, “I honestly don’t know that much about Zachary, he isn’t popular, but he isn’t disliked either, not counting one or two people. I have done my best to keep him and his friends from being bullied, his friend Gavin is an easy target. Zachary doesn’t do any extracurriculars, though I know he tried out for the basketball team a couple of times. The few times he has come up in conversation most people have nothing but nice things to say about him, even his ex- girlfriend Lisa Rivera has nothing but nice things to say about him.”

Robert chuckled, “Seems you have already been doing your research on him, if he is like my brother in personality Zachary is likely a very kind and compassionate young man. I encourage you to try and get to know him, maybe the two of you can finally bridge the gap between our families.” Heather nodded, her father’s words and hopes making her determined, “I will talk to Ashley, she knows him best outside of his clique, maybe I can get her to convince him to talk with me.” Robert smiled, “Don’t push too hard Pumpkin, let him make his own decision, don’t make the same mistakes I did with Daniel.” Heather nodded, “Don’t worry Daddy, I have wanted to get to know Zachary anyway, the possibility of our friendship building bridges between you and Uncle Daniel just make it that much better.” Robert smiled, “Thank you Pumpkin, now you should get going, don’t want to be late for your first day of senior year and your first day as cheer captain.” Heather nodded as she grabbed the keys to one of the several sports cars the Ravers owned and left the house. As she started the car she looked at herself in the rearview mirror, “Let’s go build some familial bridges.”
