Chapter 7 by Naughty Stories Naughty Stories

Humans of Howaru:

Culture

Aesthetically speaking, the cities and villages of Howaru resemble those of our Earth in the ancient era, taking inspiration from real-life civilizations like Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece or Rome, but sprinkled with other architectural and artistic influences from later periods of our world, such as medieval Europe or feudal Japan. The result is a very eclectic but cohesive world that looks familiar but has its own characteristic appearance.

Science is very primitive, with astronomers, alchemists and medical doctors being its only representatives (and having scarce knowledge themselves). As a result, superstitions and myths are often confused with scientific fact.

Arts, such as sculpture, painting, music, poetry or theater, are cultivated in royal courts, but are generally considered too sophisticated for plebeians.

There is, however, a rich popular culture composed of songs, legends and myths transmitted by oral tradition, usually around a fireplace at night.
