Crossbow (Ranger)(Chaotic Nuetral)
What to expect: You set out for a mission of ****, and quickly find yourself in over your head
You've never seen quite so many weapons and tools in one place before. Most of these, you couldn't even give any names for, only recognizing them as broad categories. Swords, Axes, Shields, and the like. If anyone came in here looking for trouble, most of these would be pretty useful for defending yourself, or at least, taking someone down with you. Getting out of here though, was another story. You kept your hands to yourself, no need to be accused of stealing just by touching, or triggering some sort of mundane trap. Hells, for all you know, one of them could be a mimic.
That is, until your eyes laid upon something you were quite familiar with: a crossbow. Not quite the elegant the weapon of trained armies or Hlysan mounted archers, but that was never your goal. This was the weapon for the common man, a man like you. Well constructed and engineered, this could make anyone a tangible threat. Combined with your knowledge of hunting and the wilderness of home, you'd become quite the local hero. Not that that mattered anymore. You pulled the crossbow and some bolts off, and looked over it. This was even better than the one you'd worked with for years, not a flaw on it, far as you could tell. You tried to measure it through the sights, and pointed it at the flame granting all of the illumination in the space. As you did, you felt something strange. Your vision started to blur in the periphery, and causing you to lose some of your footing.
As you stagger, you find yourself not in the strange prison, but in the familiar abode of your friend, Tilor. His voice rang out, making it clear where you were, but less clear what just happened.
"Kel, are you okay?"
"Ya, I think so" you shook your head, trying to clear your mind "my mind went somewhere for a second, was really strange."
"Maybe it's your body trying to tell you something"
You laughed gently "Let me guess; telling me to stay here and not go on my mission"
"Yes, Kel" He came closer to you to prevent yelling "Have you heard yourself talk lately? You're going to go further away from home than you ever have in your life, you're going to try to find this evil witch that you're only slightly aware of, and make her break the curse she put on your brother that you've not heard from in over a decade, and if she won't do that, you're going to kill her. Than, once you do that, you're going to find Jithun, despite having no leads, and bring him back home, and do....whatever."
"I've got **** Tilor" you've been over this with him before, and grew tired of the repetition "if it wasn't for my parents, I would have already gone after him. Now that they've passed, there's nothing in my way, and no reason for me to stay here."
"What about your friends Kel?" He asked angrily "Me, your girlfriend Nyla? You're acting like you've got nothing to live for because some Good Idea Fey got her hands on you, and you gotta go fix a problem that isn't your fault."
"He's family!" you tried to resist shouting, but the pressure got to you, and as soon as it did, you regretted. You took a moment to calm down "Jithun is the only member of my family I have left, and if I can find a way to fix this, I need to at least try."
"I get that Kel, I really do. It's just..." he helped grab your haversack, knowing what your path forward was. "I'm not so sure there is a way to fix this, at least not for folks like you and me. You're great in the woods, even taken down a bear, but this is so completely outside your experience."
"Only way I get better is through new experiences" You gave him a coy smile, which your friend had a groan and eye roll to.
"Unprepared, those experiences can lead to failure, and who knows what kind of injuries you might face."
"Oh come on, what's the worst that can happen?"
"**** Kel" His words were slow and deliberate "slow, agonizing, painful ****, alone, and with no one to find, mourn, or bury you, leaving you to walk the land again as a member of the undead"
"For a second, you had me worried" you chuckled
"Kel, I'm serious" Tilor crossed his arms across his chest "What you're heading into is exceptionally dangerous, more so than I think you know. Your foolhardy confidence has gotten you out of some trouble in the past, but you're really pushing your luck."
"Tilor, I appreciate your concern" you place a hand on his upper arm "but I gotta do this"
He took a deep breath and held it before a short exhale "I know. I'm just worried that this is going to be the last time any of us will see you, even if you succeed."
"Don't worry. One way or the other, I'll always make it back here. With luck, I won't be coming home alone."
"I hope so, for you, and for Jithun. May Draenysis guide your journey."
