Chapter 14 by Ragnockae136 Ragnockae136

What Now?????

Courtly Intrigues and Attempts At Setting One Aside By The Master Of Laws

Aegon Had Been Fending Off Mace Tyrell's Suggestions That Margaery Was A Better Match Than Visenya, So When He Finally Suggested Aegon Set Sansa Aside Instead, Aegon Had Mace Tyrell Removed From The Small Council. However To Further Annoy House Tyrell, Aegon Named Lord Eddard Stark Mace's Replacement. Yet, He Still Permitted Lady Margaery and Ser Loras To Remain In Kingslanding, and Appointed Ser Loras As His Personal Sworn Shield, and Lady Margaery A Handmaiden To Lady Sansa. With Lord Stark On The Council, Many Would See This As Northern Influence and Ideals, and Undoubtedly, Some Would Attempt To Subvert This Newfound Influence. Aegon's Stepmother, Lyanna Stark, Was His Wife's Aunt, and Now Sansa Was Queen. Though Aegon Had To Admit, The One Thing Worse To Southerners Than A Northern Queen, Was An Essosi Queen Of "Heathen" Heritage.

Aegon Would Need To Take Steps, Such As Appointing A Firm Hand To The Small Council That Would Strangle Any Attempts To Subvert House Stark's Influence, and By Extension, Aegon's. One Man Came To Mind, and Aegon Only Saw One Way To Keep The Peace Should The Man Ascend To The Council As Aegon Intends. So Bearing This In Mind, Aegon Chose To Partially Wipe The Slate Clean In The Small Council. He'd Keep Tyrion, Varys, and Lord Eddard, Because You Can't Very Well Make Someone Part Of The Small Council, and Then Immediately Dismiss Them, Besides, Ned Stark Deserved Better Than That. No, Aegon Planned To Just Lock The Head Lion and Head Wolf In A Room With No Blunt Or Sharp Objects, While He Watched.

Aegon, Sat In The Small Council Chamber, Drinking Wine With Oberyn and Tyrion As Tywin and Eddard Stark Stared Each Other Down. Oberyn Poured Himself, His Nephew, and His Lannister Drinking Partner A New Glass Of Dornish Red. "Your Men Massacred Dozens, If Not Hundreds Of People That Day. Your Own Son...Murdered King Aerys, A Man He Swore To Protect." Says Eddard Stark. "Yes, and Aerys Was A Sociopath, The Man Wanted To Burn The People Of This City, and Your Own Men." Says Tywin Stoically and Pragmatically. "He Swore An Oath!!" Says Stark Obsessively. "Your Point Being?" Asks A Cold Tywin. "Okay, Alright, Slow Down, Keep Quiet and Let The Grown Men and The Dwarf Speak." Says Aegon, Treating Tywin and Stark Like Children.

"Jaime Lannister Broke His Oath, Yes, Broke His Word, Tarnished His Cloak and All That, But Ask Yourself This Lord Stark, Where Is The Honor In Burning Thousands Of Innocents? My Grandfather Was Anything But A Nice Person, Hell, He Burned Your Father Alive and Strangled Your Elder Brother With His Own Hands While It Happened. Ser Jaime Stood By Through All Of That, But Never Once Have You Considered Asking For His Side Of The Story?" Asks Aegon. "My Nephew Raises An Excellent Point Lord Stark, You Have Prided Yourself As Being A Man Of Honor, Integrity, and Justice, But Where Is The Honor In Accusing A Man With Half-Truths and Incomplete Facts?" Asks Oberyn. "Do You Know What Jaime Told Me, The Day After The Sacking Of Kingslanding? He Told Me That Aerys Told Him The Same Thing He'd Been Screaming For Hours, Right Up To The Few Seconds Of Life Left In Him After Jaime Ran Him Through, Burn Them All." Says Tywin, and Stark Begins To Understand The Gravity Of What Would've Happened Had Jaime Not Run Aerys Through With His Sword.

"With This Out In The Open, I Think It's Safe To Say Problems and Tensions Between The Lannister Lion and Stark Wolf Are Lessened. Lord Tywin, You Will Fulfill The Role Of Master Of Ships, Lord Redwyne and Lord Royce Will Serve You As Your Primary Right Hands, But I Suggest You Have Your Brother Kevan Be Your True Right Hand. Lord Stark, I Have Sent For Lord Tarly and Lord Corbray To Serve You As Your Own Right Hands On The Council, But I Have Summoned Lord Glover To Be Your True Right Hand." Says Aegon. "What Of The Hand Of The King? The Small Council Will Never Be Whole Without A Hand." Asks Stark. "I Have Someone In Mind, They Are Coming To Kingslanding As We Speak. But For Now, I'll Have Varys Post A Good Half-Dozen Of His Little Birds On You To Ensure No Threats Make It Past Planning Stages." Says Aegon. "Very Well Your Grace." Says Stark. "Now Then, I Have To Get Some Sleep, Seven Know I'll Need It Before The Week Is Out." Says Aegon Yawning

Aegon Sat On The Iron Throne As His New Hand Was Ushered In. The Individual In Question Was A Being Of Merit, Strength Not Simply Physical, and Virtue. All That Left Itself Unsaid, Was The Appointment Of This Person As Aegon's New Hand....................

Who Is The New Hand?????
