Convincing Dr. Giles

Madeline knew she had to convince Dr. Giles if she was going to ensure she was on the mission. She had already "persuaded" Captain Ward. She began to feel like she was becoming something...strange. Erotically strange. She wasn't sure what. Surely she wasn't acting like a complete whore--was she?

She shook the thought from her as she walked down the metallic corridor toward Dr. Giles lair--the Engineering room. Dr. Giles was many things, but one who shirked some of his duties he was not--even if he was older. Madeline wasn't sure who all was on the mission outside the vault--but she knew she only needed to convince Ward and Giles. Giles would probably the oldest of those on the mission pushing somewhere into his mid-50s. His thin graying hair and downcast demeanor make him look even older when Madeline found him checking on a noisy machine that was thudding away, keeping the power--and life to the vault going.

"Ah Madeline." Dr. Giles said dubiously. "How can I help you? I am a bit busy as you can see." He turned away and flipped a switch and then another to add emphasis.

Madeline really didn't understand the issue Dr. Giles had with Madeline but for some reason she always felt that he looked down on her. Madeline thought the competition between her father--the vault's doctor and Giles--the engineer was the main cause.

"How are you _Dr. _Giles?" Madeline said, emphasizing the "Doctor"--Giles insisted on the title.

"Busy--as I said." He flipped a few more switches and tuned an oversized dial on another machine nearby.

"Not too busy to talk about the expedition I hope?" Madeline said, waiting for his reaction.

"How do you know about that!?" he said in a tizzy of frustration. Clearly he expected others to keep the secret.

"I am trying to get on the mission." Madeline said "I was hoping I could have your support."

"You what?" his eyes widened in sincere shock at Madeline's proposal.

"I have...convinced," Madeline paused as she found the right word "Captain Ward to voice he support for me to the Overseer. I was hoping you would do the same?"

"You can't be serious?" Dr. Giles said with a laugh "A woman on the expedition? Does your Father know you are doing this?"
