Chapter 42 by Javalar Javalar

The next day.

Continue your online search.

As you can't figure out anything else, you go back to your laptop and search for the rebels online. After typing in any combination of words that might lead you so some kind of resistance, you finally manage to make contact to a person who calls herself "Susan".

She claims to be part of a group that "doesn't believe what the government tells us", has set up a blog that talks about several conspiracies, although most of them actually sound rather fishy. But she does mention the "Happy Maids". Somehow it's just a bit too obvious, you wonder. A blog like this should have alerted the people who are behind this whole thing, if those people exist at all.

[Hi, I am intrigued by what you wrote], you type into the chat box. [Do you have more details?]

You wait.

A soft ring announces an answer.

[Hello. How did you find me?]

[Found several blogs and sites, and went on from there.], you write.

[You have a Happy Maid at home?]

[Yes, just recently], you answer.

[They are hunting us. Apparently some of us seem to be immune against whatever it is they are using to control our minds. We are all supposed to be enthralled and brainwashed within hours or days. But some resist longer. Have you consumed any food or drink offered by the maid?]

[In the last days? Yes, of course]

[Then you are in danger. I suggest we meet as soon as possible. There are people like us who have gone undercover and into resistance.]

[I have heard about the resistance], you type.

[Good. Very good. I have never heard of anybody who stayed in their homes and came out of this with a sane mind. We should meet tonight. It might be your last chance! Meet me in 2 hours. I will send you the coordinates. Don't tell anyone! I have to get off.]

The chat box indicates that "Susan" has left the chat.

Do you go to the meeting?
