Chapter 7 by DemonScribe DemonScribe

What do you do?

Continue sprinting towards Silverspire

The idea of ignoring your Father’s advice, especially in a dangerous situation seems foolish to you, so you push on through the pain of your burning muscles. Darkness begins to fall as the sun sets behind the far-off mountains and as the light dims, you are able to make out a few lights in the distance. You have nearly made it! Hope gives you renewed strength, pushing you onwards with Silverspire’s distant windows guiding you to your destination.

You stumble for a moment on a loose stone and almost tumble over as your drenched dress wraps around your legs, but a rumble of thunder directly overhead forces you to recover quickly. The sky is pitch black now, with no light from the moon or stars able to break through the cloud cover to guide you along the dark path. A bolt of lightning strikes a tree less than 100 feet to your left, causing you to let out a terrified yelp as its branches explode, sending debris shooting in all direction and leaving nothing but a burning stump. You need to get inside shelter soon!

Following the path around a corner, sheet lightning highlights a stone wall with a heavy-set wooden gate directly in front of you. You are finally at the gates to Silverspire! The guards must also be taking shelter, as there is no-one posted either outside or on the walls. You race up to them, a sense of renewed hope filling you. You pound on the locked wooden gate, hoping someone can hear you above the now continuous cacophony of thunder.

The sound of jingling keys comes from the other side before one of the gates are hauled open by two men, both wrapped in dark, hooded cloaks over their armour. “By the Dawnfather, get in here girl!” The taller of the two cries out, waving you in.

You rush through and hug the man yelling at you. “Thank-you! Thank-you!” You sob as relief washes over you. The guard pulls away from you, apparently unsure of how to react to a stranger suddenly embracing him. The second guard is staring at you, seemingly embarrassed by something, despite the three of you still being in danger. He pulls his cloak tighter around his body before turning his back and leaning up to say something into his friend’s ear, inaudible to you over the storm.

The taller guard nods at his friend and steps up to you, raising his voice so that you can hear him.

What does he say?
