Connection

Upon being returned to your cell, it’s gratifying to see the relief in Sarah’s face. The hellhound girl has clearly been nervously pacing while you were gone, and as soon as the door closes she rushes over to hug you. A bit surprised by the affection, you hug her back nevertheless. After a moment, she releases you and steps back, and if it wasn’t for her black skin, you’re certain that she would be blushing.

You smile at her. “Thanks for that.”

She laughs. “Sorry. I was worried about you, is all. Meeting with the council generally isn’t a good thing. They’re not nice people. Well, Victoria and Niran aren’t. Kaeli just seems sad. And bored.”

You nod. “Sounds about right. I’m fine, though, but I’m on a bit of a time limit now.”

Sarah looks at you curiously. “What do you mean?”

You sigh. “I have a week to give up the resistance location, or they’ll give me to the Great One.”

Sarah gasps. “That’s terrible! We can’t let that happen! I don’t want anything bad to happen to you!”

Now it’s your turn to look at her in confusion. “Not to be mean about it, but why do you care so much? We’ve only known each other for a few days.”

She shrugs, looking away. “Well. I’ve had cell mates before. We usually have sex, because why not, and then they go away. The difference is, every other time, it was just meaningless sex. With you, we’ve had long conversations. You showed me actual kindness and affection. It’s something I haven’t had in a long time.”

You nod. “I understand. You’ve been here a long time, and even when there’s someone else here, you feel alone.”

She nods excitedly. “Exactly! See, this is what I mean! I feel like we’re connecting!”

You smile. “I only have a week, but like I said before, I’m not dying here. I’m going to get out, and I could use all the help I can get. Will you help me?”

Sarah nods excitedly. “Of course! But we’re in the depths of the palace, in a locked cell. Even if we get out of the cell, the guards are armed, and everywhere.”

You shrug. “One thing at a time. First, let’s figure out how to get out, and go from there.”

Sarah smiles. “Ok, big hero, let’s plan our great escape! Then you can take me to meet your girls you told me so much about.”

You chuckle at her enthusiasm. Though she doesn’t seem to realize it, you recognize the connection she’s feeling as the bond that monster girls form with their chosen mate. You’ve seen it before, with both Alex and Cassie, but it’s still surprising how quickly it happens. Sarah is a good woman, and you’re happy that you’ve made her happy. Now all you have to do to keep this, is escape from the secure prison in the palace of your enemy. And you have a week to figure out how.
