What Happens Next?
Confrontations: A Wolf Pretending To Be A Sheep, Part 2 - Gun To Gun, Part 1
Several Seconds Earlier...
"Gog, I Want This Area On Lockdown... No One In and Track Anyone Leaving. Erase Any Records of What's Already Happened and I Want Anyone Looking At This Area Blind and Deaf."
"As You Wish Father.," Gog replied in a resigned tone bereft of her usual perpetual cheerfulness.
Aaron heard a series of taps on the window and turned his head to see the darkly painted face of a Man smiling at him. Aaron was unsurprised and unfazed by what happened next as The Man grabbed the **** rifle slung over his shoulder and aimed it at Aaron who didn't move even when the gunman opened fire. The bullets smashing into the reinforced glass, making a sound that reminded Aaron of popcorn popping.
Once he had expended all of the ammo in his weapon he bent down and looked at Aaron again only this time things were different. The Man expected to find Aaron cowering in fear or begging for his life but as far as he could tell he hadn't moved an inch. Then he saw it.
The change was subtle at first, Aaron could feel a gentle tugging at the corners of his mouth and he could feel himself beginning to smile then without warning his pupils swelled to the point that they nearly consumed his irises before shrinking to the size of pin pricks.
Within seconds, Aaron could see a profound change occur in the Man who had just tried to kill him as his face contorted in fear and then panic. The Man took several steps back, his sidearm forgotten and tried to reload his weapon but Aaron was too quick, thrusting his hand through the window which was already compromised and grabbed his assailant by his fatigues, pulling him down and toward him, smashing his face into the roof of The Rolls. Aaron let go of the gunman and quickly squeezed off two rounds from the Leo Arcavald Tec-9, The precision of Aaron's shots were only matched by their brutal efficiency. Each shot had passed through his clavicle on either side of his chest completely destroying the ball and socket joint of each shoulder and shattering his scapula. Aaron's smile widened hideously as the Man howled in pain and fell onto his back on the ground, writhing in agony.
"What I Do Now... I Do Out of Necessity. May The Gods Forgive Me.," Aaron thought to himself as he stepped out of the car and without looking took aim and fired a series of three-round bursts toward the snipers perched on the roof of the building opposite his current position but he wasn't aiming for where they were but where they were going to be... The Hypershock Fractal Point Rounds ripped right through the roof top barrier they had ducked behind reducing both snipers to quivering piles of useless flesh. Ones head was totally obliterated while another had half his face and most of his right shoulder torn off.
It was brutal but considering they were going to kill him I believe most people would say they got what they deserved. Aaron's gaze was still trained on The Man who had been his first target. The Man was currently trying to push himself away from Aaron using his legs but a quick stomp to his leg pulverized his knee. Aaron crouched down and addressed the Man who cried out in pain but not as loudly as one would expect given the injuries that Aaron had inflicted on him thus far., "I can't have you crawling away now can I? I'll want to talk to you later...," Aaron paused momentarily as he stood back up before mockingly saying., "... Bitch."
Aaron raised his head and scanned the street, comparing it with the Satellite scans then a streak of light crossed his line of sight and he felt a sting in his leg. Looking down there was a tear in the outer thigh portion of his pants and a trickle of blood made its way down his leg. Aaron frowned but seemed otherwise unaffected as a flicker of light rippled across his body and he looked at the device he had affixed to the back of his right hand earlier., "Not enough power to completely block the shot but still deflect it... though just barely. I'll have to do something about that."
Aaron raised his gun and fired at the sniper that had wounded him, delivering a tight grouping of four rounds to his chest through the roof barrier he took cover behind, turning his heart into shredded hamburger meat. Aaron dropped his gaze to street level as he stepped out from behind the door he was using for partial cover and turned his head to look down the street where a trio of darkly clothed Men flinched, their guns shaking violently in their hands. Aaron took a cable from the device on his hand and connected it to his watch., "There That Should Solve The Power Needs." Looking at the frightened Men who shook uncontrollably, Aaron's lips curved upwards into a feral grin and his eyes emitted a bright yellow flash for just a moment before he fully turned and dashed toward them, covering the distance at unbelievable speed.
Two of the three Men raised their guns and fired but Aaron was too quick, ducking under the fast-moving rounds a split second before they would have impacted with his skull. Aaron was a blur as he took the gun fastened to his left leg and raised his arms to his sides and fired at the Men on either side of the street, never taking his eyes off the three in front of him who fired round after round at him but thanks to Aaron's speed the only thing they hit was empty air. Before their minds could fully grasp what was happening, Aaron appeared in front of them kicking the rifle of the nearest Man with his foot and nearly spinning the gunman holding it before pressing the barrel of his Leo Arcavald Tec-9 to the Man's neck and pulled the trigger, instantly decapitating him in an explosion of blood, chunks of flesh, and bits of bone. Aaron didn't pause for a moment, He raised both of his guns and fired point blank into the foreheads of the two stunned Men. They were dead so fast that their lives didn't have time to flash before their eyes.
Aaron immediately jumped back, narrowly avoiding a sniper's bullet. Aaron raised his weapon and fired, The shot was another bulls-eye as it passed through the high-powered scope and exited the back of the unlucky sniper's head in an explosion of blood, bone, and brain matter. Aaron made his way to the building on his left and put his back to the wall. He carefully examined his scans of the area and found that all the snipers on the opposite side of the street had already been taken care of but the information he had received indicated that at least seven Men on that side had rifles so that was seven more potential snipers.
Aaron closed his eyes and took a breath, and Gog shuddered, unsure where the words that reverberated across his mind next came from., "Nimbly of Limb, I Am The Beast That Stalks Forth and Devours The Storm... I Peer Into Its Eye and With My Claws Tear Out Its Heart and Feast, and In So Doing I Become The Storm... Beware All In My Path I Have Neither Friend Nor Foe Nor Equal. I Consume All That Approaches Me and Reduce Everything To Dust. I Am The Storm. I Am The Beginning of The End and The End of All Things.," But Gog was sure of one thing... It wasn't her Father saying them.
Put Aaron in any field that required brains and he would very quickly dominate it if he so wished. When it came to his intellectual capacity he was a Juggernaut... Once he built even the slightest bit of momentum there was nothing and no one that could stop him but Aaron had another formidable ability that made him even more fearsome.
No one knew of this side of Aaron. No one suspected that such Darkness lay in the heart of such an honest and kind young Man who had nothing but deep and abiding respect for life. Even Chase had not discovered this facet of Aaron's character. Gog was the only one who had any inkling of what lay just beyond the surface and it terrified her. Indeed, It would terrify anyone with any sense at all. At times Aaron revealed this aspect of his character without realizing it... It was the cold, emotionless and almost robotic way in which he approached some things. Aaron could be hyper rational and logical to an extent that would make even the most logically minded Vulcan cringe.
Aaron's capacity for compartmentalization was truly frightening... This remarkable and ghastly ability allowed him to suppress his emotions and set aside his conscience or any moral considerations. In short, If Aaron found it necessary he could be utterly ruthless and without mercy. In such a state he was capable of anything if it served his ends and worst of all when he returned to his normal self he felt neither guilt nor remorse. Aaron was aware of this capacity and it horrified him even more than it did Gog and because of that he adhered to a strict set of rules and unless very Stringent conditions were met he could not and would not willingly expose this side of himself to the light of day.
Unfortunately for those that had attacked him, such conditions had been met and now their numbers were dropping like a stone in the ocean. Aaron surveilled the building across from him and used his Satellites to provide him with information on the enemy's positions.
"Gog Disable Their Radios. I Don't Want Them Communicating... Play Them A Song.," Aaron smiled to himself as Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood's Somethin' Bad began to blare across every radio and headset in the area...
♫ Stand Up On The Bar, Stomp Your Feet, Start Clappin' ♫
♫ Got A Real Good Feeling, Somethin' Bad About To Happen ♫
♫ Ohhhh Oh Ohhhhh Ohhh ♫
♫ Ohhhh Oh Ohhhhh Ohhh ♫
♫ Ohhhh Oh Ohhhhh Ohhh ♫
♫ Ohhhh Oh Ohhhhh Ohhh ♫
The Moment he heard the angry yelling and loud cursing start, Aaron raised his guns., "Third Floor... Fifth Window from The Right... Check.," Aaron stated icily as he took aim with his Leo Arcavald Tec-9., "Second Floor... Third Window from The Left.," Aaron said as he maneuvered The Blake-Kenner C70 in his left hand. Both shots were simultaneous and accurate, shredding the hearts of both Men in an instant.
Next Aaron began rapidly taking out Men across the various floors in rapid succession.
"Fifth Floor... Fourth Window From The Right..." ........ [BANG]
"Fifth Floor... Fifth Window From The Left..." ........ [BANG].... [BANG]
"Second Floor... Third Window From The Left..." ........ [BANG]
"Second Floor... Sixth Window From The Right..." ........ [BANG]
"First Floor... Fifth Window From The Right..." ........ [BANG]
"First Floor... Fourth Window From The Left..." ........ [BANG]... [BANG]
Aaron's X-Ray like view of the building allowed him to eliminate his targets quickly and effectively with only minimal effort.
Aaron was taking aim at his ninth target when suddenly his vision blurred out of focus and he felt like he might collapse., "BASTARDS!" He Hissed, pulling the trigger... Unfortunately for his target the hit wasn't an instant kill like the others... Instead it tore through the side of the target's throat utterly shredding their jugular and in less than a minute after hitting the floor they bled out but not before drowning in their own blood.
"Father! You've Been.....," Gog's worried voice sounded urgently through their link.
Aaron didn't let her finish., "I Know. It Happened When I Was Grazed By That Bullet Earlier.," Then gritting his teeth, He holstered his Blake-Kenner and waving his hand over his watch, a small hypo of some thick, unknown syrupy liquid appeared in his hand and without hesitation he injected it into his Carotid Artery. Aaron slumped slightly against the wall, breathing hard., "I Didn't Anticipate This.. Anti-Personnel Nano-Machines Have Been Forbidden By The Treaty of Amsterdam Since Before I Was Born... Luckily, I Prepared Some Blood Cleansers In case of Poisoning. Monitor My Vitals and Intervene If It Gets Worse... There's Still Too Many of Them To Let My Guard Down."
Gog chirped in conformation and Aaron straightened up again, His vision began to come back into focus, the nausea was more manageable and his breathing slowed.
"The Cleansers Are Working Father But You Will Still Need To Flush Them From Your Body As Soon As Possible."
"I Have To Survive First...," Then Aaron paused before his head whipped to the side, his eyes landing on Sydney., "... What About Sydney... Has She Been Infected?"
Gog sounded irritated when she replied., "No Father But She Did Receive Quite A Large Dose of Sedative... She Will Be Out For Several Hours At Least."
"That's Good... I Won't Have To Deal With Her... And If I Keep These Bastards Away From Her She Will Be Safe Until I Handle This Inconvenient Mess. I Just Have To Keep Their Attention Focused On Me... Shouldn't Be Too Difficult Considering They're Trying To Kill Me.," Even when using profanity or expressing concern for Sydney, the voice of his thoughts remained cold and emotionally detached.
Aaron checked his weapons and reloaded, and just in time. Before he even heard the shot his right arm moved to position his Tec-9, using a strategically placed shot to deflect the bullet coming toward him while using The Blake-Kenner to take out the sniper on the rooftop across the street., "That's One of The Seven Eliminated."
Aaron holstered his Blake-Kenner and twisted the barrel of the Leo Arcavald Tec-9 counterclockwise with a click before firing three rounds into the locking mechanism of the door to the building directly across from him., "Once The Rounds Expand They'll Make It Difficult To Open The Door. That Should Buy Me Some Time While I Clean Out The Rat's Nest In This Building."
Aaron returned The Tec-9's barrel to its previous position and seeing that no one was waiting to ambush him at the entrance preceded inside, drawing his Blake-Kenner he scanned the first floor lobby of the building but saw nothing except for the lifeless bodies of the Men he killed earlier. It was pitch black but given Aaron's incredible vision he had no problem stealthily navigating the darkened room while keeping an eye out for threats or booby traps.
"How Strange... The Entrance and Lobby Are Clear. They've Ignored Two Excellent Chances To Try and Ambush Me Inside The Building. Perhaps They're More Dangerous Than I Thought...," Aaron thought as he made his way to the staircase.
"Father WATCH OUT!," Gog suddenly screamed through their link.
"I See It.," Aaron replied calmly, looking down at the laser tripwire three steps up and connected to roughly a pound of D-5 Plastic Explosive., "Are They Trying To Level The Building?," Aaron thought as he examined the device. The tripwire was a ultra-thin beam on a subtler wavelength than most devices of its type so it would have been invisible to anyone else but Aaron's eyes were sensitive to light frequencies that were invisible to most other people thanks to the unique metal-based chromomagnetic pigments that gave his eyes their odd color and sheen.
Aaron holstered his Blake-Kenner and reached behind him and removed a small cylindrical device from his belt. It was barely as long as his index finger but he held it near the explosive and pressed down on the top and a white mist rushed out of a tiny nozzle near the top. It took less than a second for the explosive and the triggering device to freeze solid. Aaron gave the mechanism a flick with his finger and the chunk of frozen metal and explosive material crumbled to dust.
"Now That's Just Insulting... Not Terribly Imaginative. If It Were Me I Would. Have...," Aaron's thought process ground to a halt as he realized he had overlooked something...
[Click]
Aaron heard the noise and immediately knew what it was., "Back-Up Trigger!," Aaron immediately stuck his hand through the railing and grabbed the impact explosive. Aaron didn't have any reason to fear because he knew that this particular bomb would only explode after a set time or an impact with a sufficiently hard surface like the floor. Aaron quickly threw the innocuous looking coin-shaped device down the hallway leading to the entrance and ducked, covering his head with his hands.
A Second Later...
[BOOooooooooooooom!]
The entire building shook.
"Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!," Aaron kicked himself internally, having made such an Asinine Mistake.
Looking back Aaron smiled, seeing all the rubble blocking the entrance to the building and then his smile widened when he heard the sound of an explosion outside., "Sounds Like They Decided To Blow The Door. This Little Obstruction Should Buy Me A Little More Time..."
As Aaron carefully made his way up the stairs he brought up the buildings schematics., "Looks Like The Only Entrance Points Are The Front Door Which Is Currently Blocked Thanks To Their Noisy Little Toy, The Roof By Helicopter, and... "
"Seems They're Not Wasting Any Time.," Aaron thought with an almost sadistic sense of amusement as he saw several heavily armed soldiers scurrying up the fire escape like a bunch of rodents.
"Guess I'd Better Trim Down The Odds Before The Vermin Over Run Me."
Aaron made his way to the top of the stairs, Stepping over a series of trip wires as he did., "These Aren't As Powerful As The Other Ones So I'll Just Leave These Here In Case The Rats Try To Flee."
Aaron's satellite scans were clear so he didn't hesitate to turn the corner into the main hall on the second floor but he still held his guns at the ready. Aaron's X-Ray-like perspective of the floor ahead of him showed more than a dozen people cowering in closets and bathtubs, those people didn't concern him but several of the apartments contained armed Men waiting to ambush him and that was most certainly a concern.
