Confrontation

They walked to the classroom hand in hand, they got a few weird looks from people but they paid them no mind. They had each other and that’s all that mattered.

That was until they reached the hallway before the classroom where their path was blocked by Victoria's former friends Courtney and Taylor.

“I don’t believe it.” Taylor sneered as she looked over the couple “You actually started dating the retro bitch.”

“Out of all the girls you could have chosen, why did you go for… her?” Courtney asked, a hint of disgust in her voice and giving Max the dirtiest look.

“Because, Max is the kindest person I’ve ever met. She’s sweet, caring, funny. She makes me want to be someone I can look at in the mirror and be proud of, and I can’t be that person if I’m hanging out with you.”

“So you’re choosing this outcast over us?!” Taylor asked, outraged.

“If you go through with this then we’ll ruin your life by Wednesday.” Courtesy stated, matter of factly.

“You know, social status doesn’t mean that much if I have to continue being a horrible human to maintain it. I’d rather be someone that people can come to for help without fear of ridicule.”

“So you’ve gone soft?” Taylor accused.

“No, I’m actually growing a backbone and standing up for what I believe in and not putting up with your narcissistic, egotistical, gold digger behaviour anymore. Now let us pass.”

Taylor started looking agitated before her rage boiled over and threw a punch at Victoria, but to everyone’s surprise Max grabbed her wrist and twisted it so Taylor would fall to her knees then pushed onto her back.

"And that's where I step in. If you even attempt to lay another finger on her, either of you, I will kick your ass so hard you'll be walking around looking like the purple Teletubby. Now get the hell out our way."

Victoria looked at her girlfriend with a mix of admiration and a slight feeling of fear. She had never seen that kind of anger from Max before, she didn't even think Max had that kind of anger in her. As they sat down in the classroom Victoria took Max's hand under the table and rubbed her thumb over the back.

"Thanks for protecting me back there, love."

"Of course. Can't have anything messing up that pretty face now can we?"

Max looked at her hand. The tingling sensation of time still dancing on her fingertips. She didn't mean to time travel, it was just an instinct. An instinct she hoped wouldn't bite her in the ass.
