Confessing
Morgan quickly dressed and put together some new clothes in her overnight bag before giving herself a once over in the bathroom vanity. Her heart started racing again and her palms got a bit sweaty too.
"Here it goes." Morgan nodded to herself. "Okay." She looked down at her feet that refused to move. "Oh come on!" Morgan hung her head. "This is what I want."
Morgan was feeling selfish for wanting this for herself, but for so long she had come to realize a part of her had been **** to the wayside. It was now in control of her actions, mostly. She didn't want to her hurt Nelson there was still something of her love for him in her, it just wasn't the same love she had when she married him.
Somehow she had made it downstairs as her mind distracted her once again with a myriad of thoughts. Nelson was still on the couch, typing something up and clearly in a zone. The rapid ticking of his keystrokes served as another distraction that helped her take the next steps that brought her to her husband's side.
"Nelson?" Morgan cleared her throat when he didn't look up. "Nelson I want a divorce." She stated plainly, ripping it off like a band aid.
The tapping stopped and all was silent. Morgan's breath quickened and her heart started pounding in her chest again as she stood beside the couch. Nelson hadn't moved. He stared at his screen, his fingers a hair's breadth above the keyboard. Had she not been staring so intently at him, she could've sworn he was dead. He seemed to barely be breathing.
"...what...?" Nelson whispered so quietly that Morgan had to strain to hear him even in the silence.
"I'm leaving you for someone else." Morgan revealed as gently as one could, trying to simply state a fact, but she could see how she wounded him with each word. "I guess I've been unhappy for some time now and... ...and I-..." Tears welled in her eyes as she spoke, but he cut her off.
"Did you have sex with him?" Nelson, nearly inaudible, asked.
"..." The words caught in Morgan's throat. "Yes." She could hear him gasp but still he did not move and yet refused to even look at her.
"Then you should go." Nelson stated firmly. "Get the fuck out of here. NOW!" He stood up as he shouted the last, flipping the table in front of him and sending the laptop flying clear across the room.
Morgan didn't need any excuse to stick around. It hurt too much for one, two she had another place she would rather be, and three, Nelson clearly didn't want her there anymore either. She knew this wasn't over and it was probably going to be an ugly process, but she was going to face that trial when it was time, right now however it was time to get away.
"Wait!" Nelson called out. "Morgan wait!" Concern and pain evident in his voice.
"W-what?" Morgan asked nervously as she paused at the door, not daring to turn and face him.
"Please, please don't tell me it's anyone I know." He stated his question.
"No, it's not." She lied, not wishing to take any more from him.
Morgan didn't wait for a response from him quietly stepping through door as soon as she finished speaking. She sniffled and wiped her tears on her sleeve as she approached her car. There was no looking back now and she wasn't going to. She kept her focus on what was in front of her and moving forward. Even as she backed out of the driveway she kept her gaze turned away from the house.
Nelson stood in the bay window and watched his wife leave him. Tears burned his still dehydrated eyes as Morgan drove off. He watched and waited for a full hour wondering if she was going to come back and reveal it all to be some sort of terrible joke, but as darkness fell it became apparent that she had truly left him.
"For another man?!" He shook his head wondering how he had messed this up. "I had it all..." Nelson slowly and quietly fixed the table and collected his laptop from the floor.
Miraculously the laptop turned back on without issue. It thought it had crashed and experienced an error that **** it to shutdown. Nelson shut it off and fell onto his back.
"I wish I hadn't quit drinking." He muttered.
