Coming Through the Window

You watch Illiana simply step through the window from space into the ship. Your brain spins. The glass is three inches thick and stronger than steel.

Illiana smiles at you, showing sharp fangs. “Hello Mira.”

For some reason you feel calm and safe. You side aches.

“How?”

“Dear, I can’t begin to explain. Vess did something quite remarkable with the weapon. He made us living darkness and the best part is we’re contagious.”

“Contagious?”

“Yes. You’re already one of us. You just don’t know it yet.”

“Markus?”

The coms crackle with static.

“You’re quite safe, Mira.”

She saunters toward you, her ultra thin, pale form looks strangely sexy.

She plants a cold hand on your shoulder, sharp taloned fingers digging into your flesh.

“Everyone has some darkness inside them. You have more than most, Mira.”

“You lie.”

She pulls you into a kiss, her cold black lips meeting yours. Her face is as smooth and white as porcelain and her eyes are all pupils. Staring into them is like looking into the abyss. You feel incredibly aroused.

“Do I?”

She waves at you and darkness takes you. When you open your eyes she is gone.

“Markus?”

The coms crackle. “Mmmira...lost your signal for a second. You ok?”

“Fine, Markus. You won’t believe what just happened. Where are they?”

“Back outside the ship, moving toward sector four.”

“Ok, I’m headed back. We’re not safe.”

As you jog toward the bridge you wonder if you really are ok. You run your tongue along your teeth. Your canines feel like they’ve grown a bit. Your fingernails seem like they are coated with black nail polish and they’re sharper than you remember.

You need a plan to stop them.
