With your hands raised, you carefully emerge from your hiding place. “I won't hurt you, I promise! I just wanted to ask what's going on.”

The young woman wipes the tears from her face. “And I'm supposed to believe you? How naive do you think I am?” She quickly grabs a stick from the collapsed tent and jumps to her feet.

“I don't blame you, after all, we're fighting on opposing sides,” you say as you slowly walk towards her. “Shall we sit down?”

“All right, but you first.” You sit down and she does the same. “Don't get any ideas. I grew up with a little brother, so I know how to deal with men...”

“Then your little brother is probably not to be envied,” you smile. ”My name is Chris, by the way.”

“Anne,” she replies. ”And yes, my little brother was really not to be envied in our childhood. I was sometimes quite mean to him, but if a boy doesn't want to hear, he has to feel.”

Now that the tension has eased a little, you can look at Anne a little better: Her brown eyes are no longer wet, but instead radiate a friendly warmth.
