Colonies 1. Litmus

Litmus; a planet about one quarter the size of Earth, but with about the same gravity, was one of the first places humans reached in their escape. In here there is no significant rotation and the same face of the planet remains turned to the main star. Here humans did not need to travel in order to remain protected by the day.

Dark places, such as mines and caves, are plagued by shadows here, but night only happens once each 262 years, when the passage of a large Gas Giant between Litmus and the star causes about 1year of darkness. During the first 3 generations humans build for themselves houses of one floor with transparent roofs to protect themselves from the snow that falls often.

This is a very cold planet, being too far away from the hearth of the system. Water exists here in liquid state only in dark oceans bellow many metres of ice. And around the thermal fountains along some Earthquake Lines. Despite those difficulties it was the most promising alternative for humans in the system until the first mages awake elder vampires and find a way to make a deal with them.

The people of Litmus fought one Dark Hour by themselves, and those who survived it where ready to study the possibility of alliance with the creatures of darkness.

Here the separation between the vampires and the humans is more clear than anywhere else. Vampires keep their timeless existences in caves, and travel to the Dark Side of the planet when they want to look the stars. Humans send them the unwanted as sacrifices, in exchange for minerals taken from the deep dark tunnels. And once every 262 years the vampires inside the planet protect the human population from the major attach of hungry shadows as well as they can.

Without local industry able to produce Mechas the people of Litmus has not protection against the gargantuan shadows that came for them. Fortunately the time they stay under attack is too short for most shadows take advantage of it.
