Chapter 9 by DKRouga DKRouga

Difficult sleep is a sign of anxiety.

Classmates New and Old [Eliza POV]

Eliza held her cheeks as the hellpup on the other side of the fence yipped and ran in circles. "They're so cute." She wants to pet them so badly, but knows it is not ok to do that without permission. It reminded her how her mom never let her or her siblings have any pets.

Just as she was about to give in and reach through the fence, the front door to the house openned up. To Eliza's surprise it was Lucille Dubois who stepped out. Lucille was one of the most popular girls and star smashball player of their highschool. Her elegant, yet hardy body was something Eliza admired. Despite Lucille's intimidating stature and physique, she was one of the most compassionate people Eliza had ever met. She actually had a small crush on her back then.

Lucille bent down and clapped her hands. "Come here, Cinder! Come here, boy!" The hellpup turned and bolted towards her as little ember wisps left a trail behind him. She picked him up and he started playfully nibbling her finger as she pet him. Lucille looked beautiful as she stepped towards Eliza. "Would you like to pet him? He likes meeting new people." A chance that Eliza could not pass up.

After a little while Lucille had to head off. "Judging by your uniform, you are going to HierArcane, too. Would you like to go together?"

As nice as that sounds, she couldn't agree. "Sorry, I promised to meet a friend of mine so we could go together." With a nod, Lucille walks off, just in time to see Alex jogging their way.

She can't help but notice how handsome he looks in the school uniform. Sure he doesn't have the confidence to truly pull off the look, but he still looks nice. There's that smile of his, the one that tells her how glad he is to be around her. "Good morning, Eliza. How was your night?"

"I slept well. How about you?"

"I was up later than I should, but otherwise I slept pretty good."

She remembers the two books in her bag, copies of that one mecha manga she had been wanting to check out. 'Should I ask now? What if he says no?' He isn't going to say no. 'But what if he does? Do I just laugh it off?' Just ask him already. "H-Hey, Alex?" She feels the weight of his attention even more now. With a gulp, she reaches into her pack and pulls out a book. "W-Would you like to read this with me?" She can't look him in the eyes, it is just to much.

"Uh, sure. I am not sure how much help I can be, but I will do what I can." His words ease her mind for a second before she shoves it into his hands and powerwalks towards school. He catches up to her after a few seconds. "Do you want it back?"

"No, I got two so I could give you one."

"Oh, um, okay?" She felt so extatic right now. What could possibly ruin this feeling?

"Who was the woman you were talking to? She looked familiar." Alex inquired.

"Lucille Dubois, she is pretty well known, but given you are new here it makes sense that you don't know her."

Seeing him pondering makes her feel a bit insecure. Was he comparing them? 'I would definitely lose...'

He suddenly gets this look on his face, it is rather cute. "That is it! I saw her at The Nerd Store when I met you." Eliza had overheard Lucille chatting with Veronica and Caitlyn about a new basketball game one time, so that made sense.

Seeing the smile return to his face made her feel uneasy. 'Wait, why do I feel like that? Just because he is the first boy outside of my family that I feel comfortable around, but we are just friends. We have only known each other for a week...'

As they arrived at HierArcane, things were pretty hectic. People were running past them trying to get inside as quickly as possible. You'd think that everyone had slept in or something.

When the chaos calms down, Eliza spots them. The three titans of her highschool. She had already seen Lucille today, but with her stood Veronica and Caitlyn.

Veronica is a gold dragon, with striking horns that swept back across her head. Even from this distance she was as terrifying as ever. Despite that, Eliza had to admit that Veronica was incredibly hot. A sizable bust and wide hips were the most notable aspect. Then there was the confidence she carried herself with. Finally was the fact that her grades were flawless, something she prided herself on. If it wasn't for the fact that she was a tyrant beneath the surface, Eliza would have had a crush on her.

Now that she thinks about it, all of Veronica's family were pretty big names. The one with the least fame was her mother, a teacher at HierArcane and one of the most respected ones at that. Eliza wonders if the manipulation and **** run in the family. Honestly, she probably wouldn't have believed those rumors if she hadn't seen it happen herself.

She froze in place when she notices that Veronica is looking over in her direction. The dragon's eyes almost seeming to burn through her with malice. 'Did I say all that out loud? No I couldn't have. Then why-?' As she tracks Veronica's gaze, she realizes it isn't her that she is staring at, but the guy with the goofy grin right next to her.

Do not stare into the sun, lest it stare back.
