What's next?
Class with Dr. Haas
You stared at the chalkboard as Dr. Haas continued talking about the theories the dark arts and necromancy. You willed yourself to stay awake as you still had to meet with the twins afterwords for optional tutoring class.
It was optional of course but you enjoyed the twin’s company they were good teachers and the genuinely cared about you asking how your day was, how classes went, etc heck they had a near heart attack when you told them you got a girlfriend. Dr. Haas in the other hand seemed more interested in boring you to ****.
“Now Mr. BlackThorn can describe and example a tier 10 Necromancy spell?” Dr. Haas said breaking you out if your daydream. “An example of a tier 10 necromancy spell would be a simple undead summon such as a zombie or undead dog.” You replied. Dr. Haas grunted before continuing his lecture on the necromancy much to your displeasure.
An hour of tortuous lectures later...
As you headed to the elemental department you smiled as you entered the empty classroom waiting for the twins to show up minutes later with their hair all frizzled up. “I think I can guess which element we will be studying today.” you said chuckling at their appearance.
Arnan frowned before Asher spoke. “Indeed Mr. BlackThorn we will be covering the element of lighting today specifically how to arc it as I am sure you know in the bronze league dueling tournament coming up it will be a free for all this semester.”
As Asher finished talking his brother Arnan spoke up. “First off Mr. BlackThorn know that unlike normal electricity lighting is more volatile then standard electricity especially from wizards as the mana makes it more volatile and prone to arc between anything metallic or having mana at all.”
Asher then picked up. “However lighting is powerful when used against water or earth magic but useless if it encounters wind magic making it useful when dealing with earth or water wizards but useless against any wind wizards you encounter.”
Arnan continued today we will show you how take your standard lighting bolt spell and then arc it. Standing up the three of you headed the wizarding range were spells were safely tested looking at the range you could see three targets with one hiding behind a barrier.
“Observe.” Arnan said before drawing his wand. The wand glowed briefly before a blue lighting bolt shot out striking the first target before arcing to the second and third target respectively. Looking back at the twins a thought crossed your mind. “Could either of you teach me how to make a forked lighting bolt?”
“Certainly watch closely Mr. BlackThorn.” Asher said before repeating the same motion with his wand the only difference being that the wand glowed a lot longer before discharging the lighting bolt which only struck the first target. “Now you try it.” Asher said
You smiled as inspiration hit you drawing your wand you copied the motion like Asher and Arnan had done before instead you however flicked the lighting bolt forward. The twins watched as the forked lighting bolt split in two hitting the two targets at once before arcing to hit the third target together.
You turned back around to hear clapping from the twins smiles adorning their faces. “Excellent display of creativity Mr. BlackThorn the other students certainly will have their work cut out for them during the dueling tournament.” Asher exclaimed.
Arnan nodded before continuing. “Indeed truly you are learning fast it won’t be long before we move on to higher tier spells in any case that concludes our tutoring session for today we will see you tomorrow Mr. BlackThorn have a good evening.”
You nodded bidding the twins a good evening as well before making your way home. It had been a long day and while it was tedious it was fun when you learned something new or cracked a spell or sigil that was giving you a hard time.
As you unlocked your door and entered you felt like you were being watched. Looking outside you slowly observed the surrounding area. Years on the streets had taught you how to be patient, attentive and most important of all observant. While other thieves were quick to pickpocket or lock pick doors they often got caught spending a long night with the constables’s boots in their ribs and a billy club to their head.
You closed your eyes concentrating your senses to reach out and find what was watching you to no avail. Opening your eyes you took another long look before closing the door behind you locking it and then placing a barrier sigil you had learned today as a safety measure. You were being watched and while you couldn’t find then you wouldn’t make it easy for them. After setting shadow sigils on the windows and barrier sigils in the fireplace, front and back door you felt safe. Until someone knocked at the door.
Sighing you drew your wand hiding it behind your back charged with a lighting spell before approaching the door and looking through the peephole only to see...
Who do you see?
