Chapter 19 by Ebanu8 Ebanu8

How goes preparations?

Clan Harron is subdued

With Inquisition support, the hostile Dalish Clan Harron is quickly subdued and the survivors rounded up, granting security to the Brecilian Dalish once more.

You confront Clan Harron's Keeper Shaenril, the woman balefully glaring daggers at you.

"You are a traitor to our kind, Inquisitor," Said Shaenril, "Consorting with Humans and having our kind settle peacefully alongside them when we should take land by right!"

"And you are an imbecile pointlessly wasting Dalish lives for mere petty ****," You countered, "Either way, you and your clansmen are now at our mercy."

"Hmph. Do your worst," Said Shaenril.

"Very well," You said, "Guards! Get her ready for being a public breeding sow!"

Confusion is audible on her face, and she realises too late what you mean.

"Wait! Don't do this to me, please!" She pleaded.

"Too late for you, bitch."

As a screaming and kicking Shaenril is taken away, Lanaya is by your side, kissing your cheek.

"Thank you, Inquisitor," Said Lanaya, "Though... I admit her fanaticism disturbs me."

"There'll always be such kinds of people, Lanaya," You said, "She's just one of many."

"So what are your plans, now?" Lanaya asked.

"Now, we focus on developing the Brecilian Forest and the neighbouring Teynir of Gwaren, and then worry about other things in the future," You said, "Besides, with how divisive the Ferelden Bannorn is, I cannot trust it to do what is needed in face of the Venatori threat."

"But what about the Chantry? They certainly won't turn a blind eye either," Said Lanaya.

"Leave that to me," You said.

Four more months would pass as Inquisition help and supplies pour into the Brecilian Forest.

By then, Keeper Shaenril and all of Clan Harron were thoroughly bred and made to give birth to a dozen children each as recompense for their actions.

Thousands of Dalish seeking refuge, along with the occasional bands of Humans and Surfacer Dwarves, would settle alongside them there, and soon the ruins themselves were restored and renovated into a veritable fortress replete with modern stone walls and artillery emplacements.

It was in this time that the Dwarves of Orzammar would further develop weaponry to form the first ever firearms in history (made outside of Qunari lands). The Aednat rifle, Thedas's first ever matchlock rifle; the RuairĂ, a type of matchlock pistol; the Beregin cannon, your answer to the Qunari cannon; and the Kashan mortar, for shorter range artillery strikes and ease of transport by infantry.

Such weapons proved far more devastating and powerful than you expected, having massacred entire hordes of Darkspawn in the Deep Roads with few to no casualties for the Dwarves most of the time. Easily mass-produced in factories through standardized processes, they improved the overall firepower of the Inquisition's army and its allies, and soon you had the power to contest all of Ferelden in a head-on clash.

And now was the time.

Gathered in your war room were your advisors, along with Keeper Lanaya of the Brecilian Dalish.

"So, how shall we handle this?" You asked.

"A bloodless takeover won't be possible, but we have to remove Orlais from the equation first," Said Leliana, "And there's the matter of Ferelden's own nobility as well."

"Leeches they are, but they still command a sizeable portion of Ferelden's military with their levied armies, and coinciding with Leliana's recent reports, they've begun hiring greater numbers of mercenaries to supplement their armies," Said Cullen, "Seems they don't take kindly to our own armies becoming more powerful than theirs."

"The renegade Mages and Templars?" You asked.

"All too busy fighting each other or whoever crosses their paths," Said Cullen.

"Be that as it may, we should at least consider the possibilities of sympathetic parties among the Bannorn," Said Josephine, "If you'd like, I can have my diplomats comb the nobility, sort them between those directly opposed to us, those who support us and those who sit on the sidelines."

"Make sure to send me a comprehensive list of the third group," You said, "I won't tolerate those leeches any longer than I have to."

"What about King Alistair, though?" Asked Leliana, "I admit, I'm a little... **** to do away with him; we were comrades during the Fifth Blight."

"I know, but he does not have what it takes to truly lead Ferelden to a golden age," You said, "We must make sacrifices for the sake of Ferelden - a land so often looked down upon as a backwater that longs for peace and prosperity. I pray for a land where Elves, Dwarves and Magi can live in harmony with our fellow Fereldeners, but the Chantry and the nobility have always interfered. As such, I must take matters into my own hands."

"I understand, Alaras," Said Leliana, "You've never led us astray, and you never will now."

"So are our troops in the Brecilian Forest and other regions of Ferelden ready?" You asked.

"Indeed, they are," Said Cullen, "They await only your command."

"Good," You said, "We wait and prepare, and when the time is right, we shall strike swiftly like the wind."

How does the coup d'état go?
