Circle the pool

You stare at the expansive cavern, lit by the ghostly glow of phosphorescent mosses. Dripping water echoes faintly, but otherwise an eerie silence prevails.

You turn to your companions. "Let's explore further, but carefully. Keep your eyes peeled for danger."

Nell nods, lifting his torch higher. Its flickering light sends shadows dancing among the stalagmites. You pick your way among the rock formations with your senses alert.

A faint scuttling sound makes you freeze. You scan the darkness, heart pounding. There - two tiny red dots gleaming in the blackness. They blink out of sight for a moment, then reappear closer.

"Eyes ahead!" you hiss. The others whip around to look. More red eyes wink on, surrounding you. The scuttling grows louder, along with faint squeaking.

"Bats!" Adi groans. "Don't panic."

You **** yourself to stay calm as a cloud of leathery wings detaches from the ceiling. The bats swoop in a chaotic swarm, buffeting your hair and clothes. You duck and flail your arms, trying to protect your face.

Finally, the swarm passes. You straighten up cautiously. "Is everyone alright?"

"I'm fine," Jon replies shakily.

Nell nods. "Just startled."

You let out a breath. "Let's keep moving. But keep watch for more surprises."
