Christmas Concert: Leah Can't Avoid Mr. Howard
As Leah made her way through the crowd, weaving through clusters of chatty parents and excited students, trying to avoid Mr. Howard it was no use. Principal Howard's gaze locked onto hers. His thin lips curled into a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. She couldn't help but notice the way his eyes lingered on her, making her skin crawl.
"Ah, Leah," Principal Howard said smoothly, extending a hand in greeting as he moved toward her--blocking her attempts to enter the auditorium proper. His voice held an undertone of superiority that set her on edge. "I'm glad I caught you before the concert starts."
"Hello, Principal Howard. How are you?" Leah forced a polite smile and shook his hand, an act for those around busily chatting and moving toward the auditorium.
"Ah yes...the concert won't start for a bit I was hoping there was something I could talk to you about...in my office." Mr. Howard's leer was like the Grinch who stole Christmas. Leah knew exactly what he wanted to "discuss."
Leah saw Jason in the distance and they made eye contact as he was milling about talking to parents before the show started. He saw her talking to Mr. Howard.
"Shall we, Miss Williams?" Principal Howard motioned with his hand toward the closest door that would lead them eventually to the front office area.
